It was mentioned in the very first post of the topic I linked to.

If I am to be expected to pay $75 for Ace, why on earth would I pay anything for such an inferior maker by comparison?

Tsukuru 4, yeah. 2003... not so much.

Actually, $75 was the pre-order price. It's $90 full price, plus $20 for its expansion packs. So the suggested price for 2K3 is the price of an expansion pack.

Again, if I were to pay THAT much for Ace... why would I spend any more money on 2003?

Honestly... I didn't even read the topic in detail. That admin debacle got me so upset that I was kinda like, if they wanna hire people like that, do they really need my money? Then you kinda realize in the grand scheme of things they're probably powerless, and most of the money is going to glorious Nippon. That, and jerks get their due- in well... due time.

But still- they have a thing or two to learn about pricing. Even if RM2003 comes out, it's dated. So yeah, a few hardcore people will buy it, but people want the newest thing. Also, RM2003 does indeed have scripts, but in a much older setting. I've played a few 2003 games- some folks used the JP version to develop legit, and are really looking forward to a 2003 actual release to convert projects and whatnot. $20 isn't anything, but the Ace debacle.

Ace is $90, but I will defend the US company and the JP side that sets everything most likely in that you don't need the DLC. It's optional- as in, I have no use for it since custom resources.:P

BUT. That $90 price is ridiculous. And I can see the POV of someone wanting to use RTP-style material wanting that DLC. I had a friend interested in finally making his own RPG, and he wanted to use a PC Maker since that way, he could share it around easily to his friends- that and he doesn't have the consoles needed for RPG Maker 1-3 anymore. He saw that price-tag and ran to the hills. RPG Maker XP should be in his range, but honestly, is okay but Ace has a lot more stuff for new users(built in caterpillar, etc) that might not have the patience to go script hunting and bug hunting using multiple scripts. In a perfect world, RPG Maker XP should be $30, VX should be $30-40, and VX Ace should've been priced at $60. Instead, like Dray mentioned, they bumped up VX Ace's price instead to make a difference appear in pricing, instead of the other way around. It's just kinda shameful really... there isn't enough added to justify that cost. And they've given up on compensating VX owners as well- if you pre-ordered, you got what everyone else got, no extra discount. I didn't own VX, and I pre-ordered- these are the only reasons I got it, since I knew it wouldn't get a sale for a while afterwards. Pre-purchase is the new "trend" in gaming instead of pre-orders it seems.

That being said, it is a robust maker, it has the community booming... but honestly, sometimes the PC Maker community can be confusing. Not in actual application to program, but the mindsets. Like, some people severely look down on others for using the RTP sans scripts to make a game. Then, some of the best games considered use custom resources(and they do it well), but then they just completely rip Square's menu noises. It's kinda like... really. And that's not counting the Final Fantasy/other RPG storyline clones. It's a bigger community, but I think looking down on a user using the RTP and creating something original is kinda dumb... Fo' real.

I like how some people still don't know that those Makers were pirated. Just had someone ask me at Youtube to play their 2K3 game. Or rather, they just gave me the game info and where to download it and assumed I knew what to do. I asked them where they got it. They told me, and I said that it's not legit unless they paid for it. The response?

Not RPG Maker 2003
ONLY RPG Maker XP you have to pay for

Another person requested I do a 2K3 game. After telling this guy that it was pirated, this was the response I got.
Quote:
Well I downloaded it from [edited out] for free, I didn't really pirate it.

Haha good gravy. I'm sure they can see how this release would go from those two messages alone.:P Though I guess 5 people paying is more than the current nothing. :shades

My gosh, it's like ever since the "2K3 for legit" dealio popped up, I'm getting trolled by 2K3 users.

Lantis will remember that, a while back, I got an offer to become a collaboration partner for a channel that was coming up for homebrew games (unrelated to the collab channel I'm working on now). I turned it down, on account it was affilated with a web site that gives out all the pirated Makers.

Well, just today, I got an angry response from someone else who runs that collab channel:

Quote:
Hi, this is Cleril, the other guy on this channel. I don't know of Xach responded to this as he might of died but I recently got renewed interest in running things here. You'll find I do them a bit differently but by all means you have my respect, despite my tongue.

You're telling me that [edited out] is a pirating site? I call bullsh*t unless you want to source this information. They do not support piracy of any RPG Maker whatsoever. Hell, I myself didn't have access to my games and asked for software to break the encryption of the .rpjov files and they wouldn't give it to me (Google did, doesn't that make it a distribution site for pirated RPG Makers). You know Youtube is in tandem with Google, right? So I guess by your logic that you shouldn't be on Youtube anymore because there are videos on Youtube explaining how to pirated various RPG Makers. And then I would suggest you don't use Google because it provides links to pirated material and how to pirated RPG Makers.

Now then, source for your claims?

*sighs*

A response to proving that RM2K3 was pirated, from the collab channel mentioned in the prior post.

Quote:
If a developer does not release their software in English but someone who pirated it has made an English patch then the developer has no excuse for losing sales to piracy. Piracy is never a reason to not support willing customers, end of story.

And you can not possibly blame [site edited out] for this because you haven't told me the connection Don Miguel has with [site edited out]. [site edited out] does have 2K3 available but they give credit to Enterbrain (even though Enterbrain did not actually translate) and if you think about this helps Enterbrain. It's better than people getting from Don Miguel's site.

If more web traffic goes to [site edited out] for 2K3 and people who go there find who make it then that would further support for the other RPG Makers, no?

You're logic in black and white thinking, good sir. And assuming the average internet user is an idiot (which is true) then there is no doubt most would at least at first think Enterbrain just released it for free which would then garner support for them for others to buy other RPG Maker software.

Just like how Indepedent developers who give away free game content often get a lot of support (and more money).

But hey, if you wanted to work with just me on my channel, you could play the games I've made (I plan to actually work in the game industry after college) since you do Let's Plays. I could get your name out a bit more, no doubt. Up to you, this is my personal channel: [link edited out]

If you wish to work with this channel that's your business, I just figured I'd convince you that [site edited out] isn't for the piracy of any of the makers.

I have proceeded to laugh in this person's face and blocked both accounts. :)

Agetec hasn't forgotten about us at all.

Enterbrain has.

Also, Draygone, for having to deal with such morons, you have my sincere condolences.

Some people are just aggressively stupid.
