Very interesting. I like how they approached such a personal subject with duedue respect.

I'll tell you honestly. When I am out camping and have to do my business, I feel like it is a more "complete" and timely experience than at home. Out there, I dig a small cat hole, remove my pants and squat. At home, it can actually become frustrating. Thing is, since we are all brought up doing what we do the same way we always have, it is hard to form a frame of reference. It is hard to form an opinion on something you haven't tried or haven't tried enough.

My plan is to try this out at home using house hold objects to see more clearly if there are benefits for me, personally. Also, I urge you all to consider this as well. Most of China still squats, much of the middle east squats, much of Africa squats. Point is, it is all a matter of perspective and customs. We just are not typically open to seemingly radical takes on personal subject matter.

Actually, seriously, this does make a good bit of sense. Even dogs pretty much do this the same way.

The next time I have to go, I will try to replicate this as well.

There's actually some evidence that squat toilets are healthier. They seem a little difficult to get the hang of though.

Imagine that. Human instinct and millions of years of doing something one way, changed by marketing and social convention based on nothing at all. Shocking!

Maybe I'm a bit biased as I'm trying to replicate a lot of things we have forgotten in our modern society. I'm not sure all this 'progress' has been forward (i.e. Food, Running, Sedentary Lifestyle, etc). Not that good things haven't come out of our exploration but I think we have a done a lot of unnecessary harm as well, simply because we choose to throw away the knowledge of our ancestors (if we even know who they are anymore). It's almost humorous that somehow along the way we forgot how to be human, so now we have all these books and 'experts' helping us to figure out what that is.

OH NO! I bumped an old topic!!!

Point is.

I bought the Squatty Potty and it is glorious. I have to find some other place to do my reading now. Perhaps the couch, or in bed. Not sure yet. By that I mean, things move very quickly with the SP. I did a bunch more home trials before buying and tried to fashion my own but it wasn't as nice looking. I have the plastic white one.

I'll highly recommend to all poopers here at the mag a SquattyPotty.

I'm going to gift them to friends and family.

Again, IT WORKS. Very well in fact.

That's good to hear. I admit, I'm very hesitant to buy something like that, but I might consider that now that you've had a good experience.

well, if you do a little bit of research you will find that others have done the science for you. There's basically a couple of ass muscles that keep your butt closed. They are physically unable to be fully relaxed unless your knees are up towards your chest. So you are essentially squeezing poop between those muscles whenever you sit instead of squat.

This can cause hemorrhoids, a clogged colon (poop build up... Yes most people have 5 pounds of poop that isn't evacuating at any time), and while I don't know the direct connection, there have been studies to show that those who sit are three times more likely to get colon cancer. The last one could be more related to the western culture as a whole though.
