I think everyone's pretty much settled on DKC. And the thing is, I think this shouldn't just be a one time deal. I think we should get together every month or so and do this. And the winner of the last race gets to pick the game for the next race.

And this doesn't have to be the same four (or however many) people every time. I wouldn't mind mixing up the roster.

I would also like to reiterate that it would be cool to do something like, 2v2 games over netplay like Turtles in Time.

Well, just make sure you're in game volume is off and that our skype convo doesn't come over your mic too hard.

well I figured that everyone would be using an infinite lives cheat like they were in the battle toads vid when i suggested Metroid. Plus it's a game that rewards speed runs so I thought it would be perfect. sorry. :(

I'm fairly sure it doesn't have anything to do with how many lives you got and more about wondering around aimlessly trying to find out where to go next.

Also, I'd like to stay away from games incredibly difficult until we kind of get a feel for this. If this is something we do ever so often, then eventually we'll hit some harder games.

Anyways, we need to pick a date to do this. I'm free pretty much every night next after 5.

*contemplates...*

I know metroid has been shot down, but there are other games that are complex like that. Perhaps a good way to tackle this issue would be to have someone do a lets play of the game in question (Castlevania, say, or Starfox) and then allow a week or two for participants to study the game before you race it. If it's a game already let's played, all the better. As a bonus, this could also give a "Time to beat" and ramp up the competitive spirit. But you are right, perhaps this is a bridge that is better crossed when it comes up. :)

Just a suggestion I wanted to put out there.

Or we can stick with the original plan and just let the winner select the next game.

I think also it could work if the loser picked. Sort of a interesting twist of affairs as well.

I'm cool with doing this in a couple days. I'm so stuffed up right now I'm just focusing on breathing. I'm just hoping I'm as good at DKC as I remember! Last time I played, it was in front of 8 or so people at a gaming tournament for speed runs. The challenge was unbeaten for like, the whole day. No one could get it. By dumb luck and close calls, I got the record. Though, it was broken again 3 hours later by one of the earlier people who had been practicing.:D

I think everyone will be a winner in this one though. WE ALL GET THAT OST. I love the entire thing, especially Aquatic Ambience.

I'm also curious about one thing- how to record our audio. I know my computer will probably pick up skype with Camtasia. So are we just going to layer the Skype conversation in Vegas? I'm still new to the recording stuff thing.

If we all pick up the skype conversation, it will be impossible to sync. When someone speaks, the person on the other end doesn't actually HEAR what was said a short moment later. Which means it will be recorded a short moment later. So there will be a sort of echo effect when anyone speaks.

What needs to happen is that you are able to isolate your recording to just your video (with no in game audio) and your voice and nothing else.

I don't record internal audio. So I'll be able to throw on a set of headphones which will route the in game audio and our skype conversation to my ears. And I'll just use my screen recorder to capture video plus the audio from just my mic.

If everyone does this, all I'll need to do as far as editing is concerned is just make sure all four videos are playing at the same moment and everything will be perfect.

Awesome! I'll have to do a test run on this. My Windows 7 doesn't even have Stereo Mix(internal audio), so I hope it works. I'm planning to just go ahead and use Audacity. I'm also thinking it might be convenient to submit the videos silent, and then the MP3 file of the audio separately, right?:)

Also, I just did a quick test. I have silent video and silent system- my voice only in Audacity. I'm glad it works(not so glad that this is so duh and I forgot Camtasia can mute system sound recording.)

I'd rather have your video and your commentary already sync'd up in one video file, if that's possible. I'd rather sync up just four video files than a total of eight files (four video, four audio). And yeah, Stereo Mix was taken out of Windows because someone at the RIAA somehow ran across the function and realized you could record anything you want... particularly copyright material (I refuse to believe there's someone intelligent enough working for the RIAA to actually know about it from computer prowess alone).

Alright, you got it! I have everything set up to do this. I think I should be better enough by tomorrow night. Does anyone have plans? If so, I'm free just about every night.

And yeah, I had that problem with Hypercam. It doesn't let me record game audio because of it, but somehow, Camtasia's "record system sound" option works, thankfully. And I also have Craps, of course(only works on PC games, really).

I tried Craps once, but I just didn't like it. It has just about no options in the ways of customizing. But yeah, I'm free any time really... and would be willing to get going tomorrow if everyone else is.

Yeah, you can put me down for some hot DKC action.

One thing I think should be done is to have everyone use the same copy of the game to make sure there's no hiccups in the process.

Yeah, I'll PM the copy I use to everyone so that we are all on the same page.

When we get on Skype, we'll go over a few things before we start recording.

Dray? You good for tomorrow night?

The last time I played DKC was the DKC: Returns for the Wii... that can't be a good thing.

Define tomorrow "night". The fact that I head to work at 10:30pm (Central) would mean that if we did do this, we would have to start fairly early. Like 6pm early. And it'd still rely on one of us being able to beat the game in less than four hours. Your let's play was three hours, plus the off-camera time getting back to where you were after a Game Over.

If we wanted to be absolutely certain I had the time, I'm off work on Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday.

(Also, Syn is itching to join us for SMRPGR tonight or tomorrow.)
