I personally think she was quite well-spoken. It's at least a small beacon of light to a better future.

I expected this to be a negative, shocking video- but I sure was surprised. I love how earnest and honest she is. It takes guts to speak out against the majority, in my opinion. Props.

A small beacon of light indeed. It's nice to see that very few of the comments on that video are negative too.

I will never for the life of me figure out why people believe it's anyone else's business but their own with they do with their love life. All the time, money, and effort that's been thrown against gay rights just blows my mind. It's no one's business but the two involved.

I am a Christian (as unlikely as that seems from the way I act a lot of the time), and my religion speaks out against being gay. And even still, I don't see why it should be my business to pry into someone else's love affairs. I have several gay friends, some here at the mag and some IRL. And I don't see how I could ever tell them how they should live their life. I wouldn't ever want to either.

It's such a senseless fight.

The thing that bothers me is the constant, "The Bible says it's an abomination" and such, but why do they care so much? Honestly, even if homosexuality was sooooo bad, it's got nothing to do with me, so why does it hurt me and anger me so much to see two people of the same sex being lovey dove with each other and all that? They're doing nothing to hurt me. I've even heard the argument that they're shoving it down our throats. Not really.

It's just flat out ridiculous, in my opinion. If it's not harming you or anyone else, then what's the big deal?

I honestly just think people who care about that stuff need another boogyman to worry about since racism and sexism are universally unacceptable behaviors now. So they find new groups to pick on(though the racism, etc, still needs improved with that crowd... highly.)

I don't quite understand it myself. Everyone religious I've met personally has been very sweet and relaxed with the situation. I'm pretty darn fortunate in that regard, and thankful. Heck, my current girlfriend is a Christian. She's done a lot of soul-searching herself since her family is a little... ahem, about science in general. That and drinking, and a couple of other things. She isn't any less of a strong holder of a faith for it, though. I really quite respect her for coming up into that, and making her own path. Personally, right now- I consider myself mainly a deist. God is there for me, but I really can't quite find a good organized church for me. And I ain't quite deist, because they basically believe that prayer, etc, does nothing at all. When I was younger, I think somehow I even always felt that. That isn't to say that if I found a church suited, I wouldn't go. It's just been a rough time to find something that is that fit.

The worst experience by far I've had was in a Borders(before they closed, obviously). Some guy randomly broke into the conversation when I was asking her if she liked the Doris Day movie Bluray collection. It was a possible gift idea for later. Dude is like "Oh how awful it is that Rock Hudson was lampshaded to be gay, I can't stand that sort of thing it ruins the movies for me soooo much." Just seriously awkward(and I've seen quite a few of their movies, featuring Doris Day and Rock Hudson- this is never a problem for those movies). I had to do a doubletake when I realized what happened, replayed the situation 80 times thinking I should've been more forward, but rested upon the idea that he just wasn't worth it. Not the time or the frustration with someone ignorant. And yeah, he was talking about an actor, but the core idea of it all was just... bothering to say the least.

One thing I heard that she mentioned was the right of INDIVIDUALS, which is the right way to do it. That's how you defuse the lit match of "gay rights", etc. The state should be focused on protecting individual rights instead of group rights. Focusing on groups is why these situations come about.

I do want to say that just because you're a Christian, that doesn't mean that you don't believe in science. Science is awesome. Can't we believe both?

And yeah, that guy could have just not said anything.

Yeah, it really is the rights of the individual. I respect the gay community as well, but the main problem is that individuals are being stripped of rights on a governmental level. Which is bullshiz. You put that very well.

Wellllll. Her family is a bit more extreme, if that makes sense. At least, the extended family. They really dislike science. A lot. She's of the "Why not both?" opinion. That would upset them pretty highly. Bah.

He COULD'VE not said anything, but dang. It was just a weird situation, I've never had something like that happen before. Sure, I've mentioned games or something and people also shopping comment and chip in usually with enthusiasm, but I can assure you that that was the only time I felt like jumping out of my own skin and punching a wall at the same time.

History will look back on this and people will laugh at the people who opposed individual marriage rights the same way people laugh at the thought people had years ago that the world was flat.

With people like that guy, though, I usually just put distance between them. Just like if someone spouted some anti-black stuff, I would stay quiet and mentally mark them.
