I just got a lovely letter in the mail from my ISP stating that they will be putting a cap all Suddenlink user's accounts. Passing that limit will result in them charging you extra. And we aren't talking just downloads. We're talking ALL internet activities including watching youtube videos, talking on skype, or playing on xbox live.

The reason they are doing this (or so they say) is because a few users are eating up too much bandwidth. You know, because that's totally it and not that they are money grubbing assholes. So they discourage the use of their service we pay for by charging us extra for... using the service we pay for. Oh, and if you monitor your own internet usage and get a different number than what Suddenlink has... well too bad. Also, unused allowance doesn't roll over to the next month.

And the best part is, the only other option I have for ISPs is DSL from AT&T which already has inernet usage limits.

I like what they say the averages are.

Don't think I know anyone who uses that little in 2 weeks let alone a month.

Well, out of people that actually do download xD

This is getting to be a huge problem. And you can't even pay for an unlimited plan, which is bullcrap.

My only option at home was AT&T DSL. Which, like you said, has those limits. Here, it's AT&T or New Wave. I hope New Wave never does this.:/

I'm switching providers for my cell phone and the old one was unlimited internet, the new one is 500MB per month, im still using my old sim and monitoring my use, over 2gigs so far this month. Wifi will be my friend. You'll have to start taking a laptop to mcdonalds Lantis.

How do you even monitor what you use?

There's actually a lot of software for that kind of thing. WatchWan and BitMeter are the first two that I can think of... probably because they are free.

I almost wish the government would take over from the ISPs and make it a public service since it's something that makes sense to be one, since it has a very high cost for entry and maintenance. It's not like they don't already track everything we do [Patriot Act]. But of course then the Corporations would still be in charge anyway : |. And of course that whole corruption thing (looking at you China).

I guess this is why we can't have nice things. The choice usually comes down to a douche or a terd sandwich.
