ok, I'm back.
I was technically able to be officially back a while ago, but I just... umm.. didn't feel like it?
My internship is over, I'm on vacation and unemployed (yay, yay and aww respectively) and while I have a few projects to work on, I should be able to squeeze Rincar in my schedule.
It's been so long since I touched the game that I don't even know what to do now.
So theses are the things I'll look into
1. Play 1ce's Donkey Kong. I haven't done so already, but I haven't forgotten about it either
2. Play the demo to see how it's going and stuff. Taking in consideration some things karr noticed in his review, I want to see what can I improve in what's already done before working on new content.
3. Be more active in the forums. I kind of went MIA in the forums. Sorry. :( I'll be a good boy now and post more often.
So... YAY! and stuff...

I'll try to update weekly...

Progress! I finished playtesting the game so far, and I'm happy to see I had already taken care of many of the event problems. I've been salvaging all the info I could from my own studio, since I lost all my other written stuff. Sadly, I couldn't find anything about the complete story, so I will have to remake some of it (Finding the intended chapter titles helped)

Will I try to remake it as faithfully as I had planned, or will I take a drastic turn? I'll fins out as I start writing again. :D

  • Main Town has been completely built
  • First dungeon has been completely built
  • Pre first dungeon events finished
  • First Dungeon events finished
  • Tweaked Main character and first dungeon monster's stats

So basically, the first 30 minutes of game play are completely playable

Ok, so after that burst of RPG Maker XP making, I came to a sudden halt. It's not that I burnt out, I just came to a point that I needed to think through what I wanted next

Started adding post first dungeon dialogue
Started building second dungeon

My current goal is to have the second dungeon playable by March 3.

So... I wanted to play the bit of Rincar I did years ago on RPG Maker 1 to refresh in my mind the dungeons I had there... my PS1 memory card refused to work. Which I took it as an opportunity to build brand new dungeons while obviously keeping the theme and objectives I aimed for previously.


XP Progress
Added new maps accessible from main town (And are crucial to the events I'm currently working on)
Built maps for the second dungeon.

This is a sort of good news/bad news depending on how you take it

When I start remaking Rincar on XP, I pretty much went by a burst of energy and desire to create, while I was getting the hang of XP
The energy might have lessened, but the desire is still there. As I look back into what I have done, however, I noticed that I rushed some things that now wish to fix. I also feel the need to do some drastic changes, now that my desire to do as much as possible was changed to a desire to do things as well as possible.

And by this I don't mean I was doing them badly, but I believe I can change in a way that reflects better the world I want to show. (Which is one of my main goals.)

Now, about the demo: My original intention was to have at least 2 fully playable "dungeons" for magcon, but that's not going to happen. I'd rather show a way shorter but better polished demo than one even I feel rushed in some parts.

tl;dr version: Magcon Demo will only have one playable dungeon. Sorry!

XP Progress: Redid the main town entirely. Now it's bigger, but divided into smaller, easily accessible maps. Added more houses, which means more citizens, which means a busier looking town. Need to move events and fix movement direction of certain events to match new town layout.

Progress!

Your eyes are not deceiving you! The progress is not so significant tho, considering I haven't updated since before magcon. Basically I only went and fixed every little thing you guys managed to find in the demo that needed to be fixed. This includes:

  • Fixed Bill's level. Somehow he started at lvl 2 instead of 1.
  • Spotted grammatical errors have been fixed
  • Adding a double dash to parts where someone cuts a sentence to begin another one
  • Fixed error where tex box doesn't reappears during Malfoc's lair.
  • Added directions out of cut scenes. If you missed where to go, someone will be there to tell you where to go.
  • Lowered drastically the crowd noise from the Illusion fight. I wanted to make it feel like that noise came from an unseen audience, but it didn't quite work well
  • Added a switch that prevented the illusion fight to repeat again. That was a big oopsie.

  • Went to see the Amazing Spider Man. It was amazi--oh wait! Wrong update!
  • Went over some maps I already had but remained out of demo, and connected them via events to the current maps. The road to Leafy Forest is one step closer to completion. :D
  • Did some brainstorming and developing concerning background stories and stuff

I apologize for the lack of updates. I did intend to cover a lot of progress during the past 2 weeks, but I got sick and spent pretty much all of my time in bed, recovering. But I'm all better now and back in business :D

Progress
  • Added events and dialogue to various maps that lead to the Leafy Forest (dungeon)
  • Created the field map that leads to Leafy Forest
  • I had many maps for this dungeon created in advance but it's very likely I'll trash them and redo them again

So... today I resumed work on Rincar. But not the way I expected.

I'm working right now in reorganizing all my written data in a single file. (I regret not knowing of One Note before) so I don't have to start looking midway where my switches list are, etc.

But I'm sure I have actual exciting news/progress by the end of the week. :)

Ok, so this time there have been some kind of progress. I must thank google hangouts and seeing whataface2 working on her game to motivate me to do something meaningful(ish?) with my game!

For the past few days, I have been (still working) on organizing the data I already have. Since one of my goal in this game is to have a town full of people who weren't merely random NPCs (Something like Radiata Stories) I needed to find a way to keep track of who's who, and I've been doing "character pages" for each one via One Note with their info, sprite and battler graphics, etc.

While doing this, I decided to make another possibly important(ish?) decision. I will be switching sprite graphics for Bill (the main character) and his wife. The main reason for this is that I was never able to find battler graphics for their sprites, so it's easier to just change their sprites. That way they won't look so ordinary either (even tho, that was the idea at the beginning)

So... yeah. That's it so far.

Progress so far:
  • I finally caught up with the process of documenting stuff... Like keeping track of where each of the 70+ NPCs are during each section of the game. (thankfully, not all of them are accessible from the start so it was a bit less daunting that it seemed)
  • I changed all the necessary sprites for Bill and his wife. Now Larry actually turns into a werewolf instead of some random kibold with an eye patch :rockon
  • Fixed event and spelling errors here and there.
  • Created a series of maps that will connect the Town of Porico and the Zain's hut (which is apart from the town) to the Leafy Forest dungeon

Next on my list:
  • Revise maps I have done in advance for the Leafy Forest dungeon, and see if they will be used or trashed.
