Once upon the time, there was a gaming console called the Nintendo 64. The N64 was a very sad system, for it didn't have a good RPG. Oh sure, it had Quest 64 and Hybrid Heaven, but they were "meh" at best. Meanwhile, the sequel to Super Mario RPG was still far off from its release. What was a Nintendo-RPG fan to do?



Then came along Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage. The spiritual successor to Quest 64, this game was hyped for its improved battle system and much more epic quest.

I, myself was rather excited about it. I liked Quest 64, enough to get most of the way through in a single rental period. So this game had to be much better. I even posted a question on the game's Q&A page: "Will this game have elemental fiends?" 'Cause I liked how certain battles such as elemental fiends were more important, and got their own battle theme. And the question got posted! Yay! (I don't think they understood what I was asking, though...)

Unfortunately for me, it would be years before I could get the game, myself. All I could do was look at the reviews, which were very mixed, and check out the almost non-existant collection of videos of the game. Finally, years after its release, I found the game at a place that sold games from all generations, and I immediately snatched it up. I knew I wasn't about to play a fantastic game, but if it's anything like Quest 64, I should find it somewhat enjoyable. So I took it home, plugged in my ol' N64, turned it on, and..... What's this crap?

Name idea "my penis" all lower case. This could always make for some very awkward conversations. Do it.

I'm not sure I can get away with uploading a video where the word "penis" appears everywhere.

Have you heard the language I've used in my past LPs? I'm sure penis isn't that big of deal... but suit yourself. ^_^

Oh, sure, because saying "penis" every once in a while is sooooo different than having

over and over and over again.

Personally, I think that's funny. But if you really don't want to, it's really not a big deal.

I have a question. The subtitle for this game is "The First Mage" But there's a magic wielding chick in the castle... is this who the game is referring to? Or is it referring to the "witch" that saves you from the goblins who barely did any damage to you. But then YOU can use magic too. You are obviously NOT the first mage as others are plainly using magic already. So wtf?

As that goblin in the ethereal realm said...

You raise a very good question. And I have yet to make it far enough into the game to know the answer.

Yeah, I'd been letting that rant stew for weeks.

Due to circumstances beyond my control, I will not be returning to Aidyn Chronicles for a little while, still.

Or, maybe it won't be for a little while. Maybe it'll be sooner, since getting set back up didn't take as long as I expected it to. Episode 5 is up, now.

I spent a bit too long away from this game. Or maybe I didn't spend long enough from it. All I do this episode is talk to people and read a few books, and yet I STILL get mad at this game. (Doesn't help that I should've recorded at a better compression rate.)

Oh, we also finish a certain subquest given to us by a certain weapons master. And more of our hero's history is revealed.

And it's anybody's guess whether the user will return. Episode 6 is uploaded!

We finally finish exploring the castle, and obtain our final party member. We also discover that, despite the game's glaring flaws, there was actually a lot of thought put into the game's mechanics. They were just implemented poorly.

Also, I don't know why, but something about this episode just rubs me the wrong way...

And now for the episode that I was looking forward to, Episode 7.

I hope you all enjoy today's episode, because we're going to be doing more stuff today than we will in the next several episodes combined!

Also, this episode barely fit into my self-imposed hour-and-six-minute limit for episode length. Whoops. I'll have to keep track of time better next time. I also gotta remember that file times are not a good indicator for episode time, especially when you reload the game more than once!

I really hope this game picks up it's pace. Maybe it'll be like FF7 after you leave Midgar...

Actually, it's about to slow down.

Though, at least it doesn't quite come to a screeching halt, as seen in Episode 8.

Something fairly significant happens in this episode. But I won't tell you what it is or when it happens. You'll just have to endure this episode to find out.

...Or you can just click certain locations to skip ahead until you find a cutscene, but that'd be cheating, and I know y'all aren't cheaters. Besides, you'd miss a very significant gameplay middle finger if you did.
