I just heard about this on G4. It's a cool little game with a robust yet simple editing interface. Best of all, you can play it free in your browser, or for 10 bucks you can down load the full version. People have built alsorts of things in this game like, the German parliament building, and a "life sized" replica of the Enterprise D. Since we're all game creation nuts, I figured you folks would like to know about this stuff. Anyway here's the link:

I think it's worth mentioning that the free version is supposedly HORRIBLY limited in what you can do in the real thing. I looked into these videos and think they do a really good job of explaining the game. Because all I've heard so far are very vague descriptions.

This dude kind of Let's Plays it. About 10 videos in and you'll have a good grasp of what this game's single player is like.

I'm not a sandbox kind of guy, but I'm really impressed with this.

I've been playing it on and off for about a year. I haven't played the real game yet, because I don't feel like paying for it. So I've played the multiplayer game the entire time I've played it, and love it. I used to play with some guys at the Pavilion, but the server stopped getting any traffic. If someone with a fast computer (Lantis) wanted to, they could download the server hosting client and get a server up and running for people here at the Mag.

Well, I went ahead and bought it. But it won't let me play. Keeps telling me "User not premium" for whatever reason. It also says to play online once to enable offline... which is what I'd like to do. The option is to try again and it just takes you back to the login screen.

Does this sound familiar?

Well, I guess what ever it was it had to do with the server being busy. Because a few days later and it worked. I haven't had a bit of problem sense.

I can see why the game is so hard to explain. Even with SK over and me explaining to him how to play while I was playing, I felt like I just didn't do a good job getting the point across that there's so much to do while, at the same time, having nothing to do (or need to do). It's probably the most sandboxy game ever. And what's weird about that is that I don't like sandbox games. I haven't since GTA3 really.

But yeah, I've just been messing around with it every other day or so just to mess around. And it always seems to just soak up time like a sponge. And I haven't even touched multiplayer. This has all been on single player.

Also, lulz.

I just started to actually play the game like you are supposed to. I started off just making a house by digging a hole into the side of a hill I spawned next to. The I collected some materials and such and started digging a shaft 2x1 tiles using ladders to climb back up. I must have spawned in a bad spot because I did that all the way to the bottom of the map, and I also dug another 3x3 spiral shaft to the bottom and found very few worthwhile materials; I did find a little tin, flint, and red ore though. I am playing on peaceful as well to start off, to avoid getting myself raped.

I don't feel right playing on peaceful. There's got to be at least some kind of challenge to it, right... otherwise it's just kind of boring. Nothing's better than exploring a cave and looking down a pitch black hallway and just barely hear a zombie moan and have some of that creepy music kick in.

Anyways, I am thinking about setting up a Mag server here at work on a computer I can leave on at all times. But I'd like to see a few more people interested in it besides us three.

well, actually, I'd probably be unable to play on said server for the time being.

Also, about peaceful, I don't find it boring at all.

it's not about the difficulty, it's about the fact that I don't really feel like fighting monsters. I'm much more interested in just exploring.

In case you guys weren't aware, minecraft got a serious update this weekend, which has been anticipated for months now as the "Halloween Update".

Here is a short list of some of the new features, which include a Netherworld that can be used for quick traveling, watches for telling the time, and new monsters to battle with, and BIOMES!!!!!

I figure I would allow Lantis's topic to remain as his topic for his creation and bring this one back to continue general discussion. In keeping with that I present for your enjoyment, additional general discussion of Minecraft!

I haven't really touched Minecraft since I recorded that Kingdom of Zeal video. Also, I heard that Fortresscraft (at first) had absolutely no crafting in it. So it was literally just moving blocks around. But I saw somewhere they released an "Episode 2" that has crafting in it. I might give that a shot some time. But I doubt anything's going to beat good old Minecraft.

I say 'good old' even though the game is STILL in beta.
