1. Could you go over what you presented this year at Magcon?
At this years MagCon I presented a demo of Veil of Corruption. The demo starts a few hours into the game. It consisted of a decent balance of all the gameplay elements you can expect in VoC.
2. What do you think might be a good estimate of when you might release your game?
Aaaahhhhh... Next question. Honestly, I have no idea. I've made a decent amount of progress since this years MagCon, but there's still so much work to be done that I could never make an estimation.
3. Is there anything you wish you would have added to your presentation?
I'm happy with everything in the demo. It actually ended up being longer then I thought, but I really wanted it to be a nicely polished demo representative of the final product. I aimed to show a bit of every aspect to the game. Towns, dungeons, puzzles, cutscenes, etc... I think I accomplished that.
The only thing that was missed was the NPC interactions. You guys never went back into the town after the cutscene. Most NPC's have multiple dialogue options explaining details about the game world. It's probably a good thing you didn't because Ix would have checked them all. (Editor's Note: Eat me.)
4. What did you think of the presentation and live reactions this year?
I was a bit nervous at first, but I couldn't be happier with the playthrough and reactions. It brought up a few things that will really benefit the game. Especially with the battle balancing. I was really glad to hear you guys actually enjoyed the boss fights.
There was a bit of confusing regarding Braxen Nova. At first I had Braxen in the text boxes, but went through and changed it to Nova. I missed changing a few. Only Bryce calls him Braxen. Everyone else calls him by his last name. A demo starting a ways into the game, I knew there would be some confusing plot wise. It was too be expected.
Even after MagCon your responses have been really encouraging. It gives me the motivation to see VoC through to completion. MagCon is the best opportunity to get your game out there and I really wanted to make a good impression.
5. What other games at MagCon did you find impressive and why?
I enjoyed watching all of the videos.I thought Ice did a really good job with JA. I like that the levels seem to be puzzle centric. It's nice to see. It also seems like it should be a funny ride. Drew did a really good job of capturing the atmosphere of the original Jesters Hunt. It took me back to when I gave it a playthrough. It's incredible what RPGM2 is capable of.
6. What other games would you like to see a live presentation of at MagCon 2012?
There are several games I would like to see played at the next MagCon. I think Wander would be cool. Pagerron's maps are always top notch. I'm really eager to see what else Karr is doing with Crystal Shores. I'm not sure if Obright is still working on Mercer's March, but I've loved his other games and I'd love to see what else he's got up his sleeve.
7. Can we expect to see something from you next year?
I would love to be able to have another demo ready for next year. MagCon truly is the best opportunity to showcase your game and build some hype. I appreciate the chance to get VoC played live. It makes all of the hard work feel worth while knowing there is still an audience that enjoys the RPG Maker series. If I get another chance I'll jump on it.
