Because I'm trying to get back into LPing I wanted to do something fun. And some of the best platforming on the SNES was in the DKC titles. So I'm going to go through all three of them. Not only that, it is a personal feeling that no one really appreciates DKC3 as much as they should. And it's for that fact alone that I'll at least be 100%-ing DKC3. Out of all three games, it's the most fun to do everything there is to do in that game. Even more so that 2 (though 2 is the best of the three games). So enjoy some DKC action

So, during lunch I had a fairly heated debate with good ol' Ixzion about this series. For some reason he was convinced that there were speed and jump differences between the monkeys in the game (Diddy jumped higher, ran faster than Donkey. Diddy jumped higher and ran faster than Dixie. Dixie jumped higher and ran faster than Kiddy). All the while, I'm currently playing these games and know it's BS. So I just took some video proof of this so called "established fact" in DKC2.

Gosh, those models look so much better than the exploration models.

Just to clarify: The reason part 2 was just find was because I spent the better part of forever getting the settings right to have decent frame rate and a small video size. Part 3, I changed a few sliders in hopes of getting a bit more quality out of the codec (I'm using Xvid MPEG-4). And the end result was horrible desync at the end (like 8 seconds or something). I changed them again in part 4, and those settings didn't create desync. In part 5, I again messed with to get better quality... and desync again. And it wasn't until this video I realized what I had done.

So I pulled part 3 and 4 into Sony Vegas... ungrouped the audio from the video, and slowed down the entire video track to the exact length of the audio. So the first third of the video and the last third of the video are fairly sync'd. But the middle gets about a 4 second desync thing going. But it's better than the 8 second desync that starts around the middle and gradually gets worse. But I've fixed the problem and it won't be happening again aside from just the 4th and 5th part.

*sigh* for someone who prides himself on how little effort he puts into these recordings... I sure do put a bit more than I expected.

Awesome, I actually JUST finished DKC2 yesterday and DKC1 last week. DKC2 was a god damn challenge but I somehow managed to finish it. I like DKC3 as much as the second game and I'm currently playing it. Dunno why it's the most disliked.

As stated in Part 7, here are the cheats:

(To enter the cheats, you have to press L, R, R, L, R, R, L, R, L, R over your save.)

ASAVE
This pretty much makes Wrinkly obsolete as the game will auto-save as soon as you complete a level.

LIVES
Whenever you load up your save after entering this, you'll start with 50 lives.

MERRY
You've seen this one already. It just makes all the bonus rooms Christmas themed.

MUSIC
This is how you get to DKC3's sound test. Kind of like DKC2's pressing down a crap ton on the new game screen.

COLOR
Just a pallet swap for Dixie and Kiddy. Dixie turns purple and Kiddy turns green.

WATER
Once you load up your game, swim to the waterfall to the left of Funky's Rentals with just Dixie. Approach and touch the waterfall on the left side of the map. Enter and beat the Banana bird cave behind the waterfall to find 85 bonus coins. This cheat is mostly for being able to go to all the levels in the Lost World without having to complete all the bonus mini-games and collecting the bonus coins.

HARDR
This is supposed to make the game more difficult in some way. I have no idea really what changes. TUFST, I can see the changes, but HARDR... not so much.

TUFST
This cheat takes away all the mid-point barrels. But gives you another 2% on your completion... making it possible to obtain 105%. Seeing as this is considered a cheat, I don't count it as the real max completion as you should haven't to 'cheat' at all to get it. Which is why I'm doing the 103%

ERASE
All this does is reset all the records on the few levels that have timers on them. I don't know why you'd want to do this... but whatever.

The WATER one is probably why you kept thinking there's a secret behind a waterfall somewhere.

what happened to part 7?

It was there, I just somehow forgot to add it to my Viddler playlist. It made it to the Youtube one though... I don't see how I would put it in one and not the other. I must be getting forgetful in my old age.

Anyways, stick a fork in this LP and call it done. I'm not really used to having replies in my threads like this, so I feel like I need to talk about like what I'm going to do next or something. I usually like to stick to more obscure games like I have in the past, so I'm probably going to do that. I have a strategic RPG in mind that I'm fairly sure no one else as played. yep same here. I LPed the whole trilogy and the DKC games were amazing. Good times playing DKC 1 - DKC 3. 1 i think was the easiest but sometimes the bonuses were a pain to get a times. DKC 2 was more challenging, not only for the bonuses but the levels were a little tricky. Also with the Lost World introduced, oh boy. As for DKC 3, i would say that game is in the middle. It was pretty good, Kiddy was kind of new to the game to get use to though since he isn't a high jumper. He's more of a power house. The lost world was not to bad either. But that is my opinion about the Trilogy. I still say DKC 2 was the best as well.
