The Japanese student society at my university was asking for donations on campus today to give to the relief effort.

I gave everything I had on me at the time ($50), and then told them I had also already donated $300 to the red cross.

They then asked me to get in front of a camera and say a message for them to share to their friends and family currently in Japan. I did it in Japanese.

Here is what I said, in full:

Quote:

For all you Japanese impaired people, whoever they decide to show this to is going to get a message from a person they have never met and that message will sound something along the lines of this:

Quote:
To everyone in Japan,

This is a story about the day after the earthquake.

"The only reason I knew about this this morning, and the only reason I woke up this morning was because my mom called me. She called me, crying, she just wanted to make sure I was safe. She thought I was lying to make her feel better. It made me sad to think this morning that in some language, somewhere in the world, some people made that call.. and no-one answered."

After I heard the original piece, my heart was moved to sadness. I donated about $300 to the Red Cross and then translated the piece into Japanese.

All I want to say is this: no person in Japan is alone right now. Everyone in the world is thinking of the Japanese people, standing with them, and supporting them.

I hope for a brighter future for everybody.

Greetings, everybody. That's Stythe right there.

Good job, Lone. I could only pick up bits and pieces of what you were saying, but you sounded quite pro at it.

My wife and I will be picking one up each. I think I'll be getting Sendai as it was the first struck. Afterwards we're going to go over finances and see how much we'll be able to donate to Red Cross.

Six months since and things are looking a lot better than I would have expected.
