So here I plan on talking about the games we find worth recommending to friends that they normally wouldn't see. Basically the anti-mainstream games.

First is a recent xbl indie title Aphelion. It's a sci-fi rpg that has a whole lot going right for it. The graphics are amazing, gameplay is my perfect oldschool favorite, and it reminds me of the Star Ocean franchise, with a bit of Phantasy Star in it. Some nice character customization as you level too. Its three dollars to purchase, free to try. I bought it and am about an hour into it as I post this.

Aphelion is a Sci-Fi RPG featuring fast turn-based combat, a 5+ hour main storyline spanning the galaxy, rich characters, combo attacks, NewGame+, ability trees, crafting, and lots more. RPG veterans will enjoy the deep game mechanics while its accessibility reaches out to new comers to the RPG genre.

I played a small portion of that demo but didn't like it. I was impressed with the graphics from the games main page because they looked more 3D sci-fi but when I played it it looked and felt more RPGM1 than I had expected. Admittedly I didn't play very far into it so I assume the gameplay might pick up and it did look to have a lot of customization but I couldn't really read the menu print very well.

I'll add to your list Ancient Trader which I played a little of the demo and liked.

^I did play and enjoy AT. Thanks for letting me know about it.

First as a follow up to my original post: Great game, still. Part two just released and is vastly improved.

Now for something with a different beat.

Avatar Adventures Online

This game was classified by the community with the following category scores - Violence=2/3, Sex=0/3, Mature Content=1/3. Avatar Adventurers is a Multiplayer Online RPG. Develop your avatar by levelling your character and obtaining new equipment. Battle formidable beasts, complete quests and take on missions across three vast continents. Communicate with fellow adventurers, form experience parties and trade items. Join the online adventure today!

Surprisingly fun! I am level 8 after about 45 minutes of soloing. Could use a the help of a team.

Only negative I can speak of so far is that there is a lot of people popping in and out of the world as well as dropping hosts. Now this doesn't affect the game on your end since it keeps running, this just means that those online players disappear. One remedy is hosting private games and inviting friends.

But as you can imagine, this game, like all indies, isn't able to compete with what most of my friends like to invest time in. Mostly due to achievement hunting and backlogs of retail games. So if you need some one to play with send me an invite.

I even allowed the game to send a message to all friends telling them how great it is as if it were me saying it.
