That's great Ix! Congrats!

I started to notice how out of shape I've gotten since drumline after we tried hiking some peaks down here. Once I get home, I'm going to start running/jogging 2-3 mornings per week. I'm hoping that I can keep it up (running in the mornings, that is) once school starts up, seeing as my earliest class is at 9. Might try biking to some of my classes, but I don't know if I'll be able to get to all the classes on time if I do that.

I did that and I hit the gym today. I'm determined to get that single-digit body fat.

Rode my bike with a coworker for an hour an a half. She wants to start riding to and from work together. That will be interesting given we would be riding home in the summer heat.

I hit the gym last night, and played some ball, as well as weight lifting. I had faltered off of my diet a couple of months ago, but I'm now getting back into things, and I can feel myself getting skinnier.

Ran about 8 miles on monday starting at 6 in Tampa (9:00 min/mile average). Thought I was going to die at the end, even after drinking a bottle of water during the run. Near the end I took a 3 minute break in the shade, because it was damn hot outside. Hour and 30 minutes total, with all but 20 minutes of that being running.

Then Wednesday was barefoot quarter mile intervals on the treadmill. 3.5 miles in 27:18.

TTC, you seem to run quite far a lot. I'm wondering if that's good for your knees, though? I do about 3 miles a week.

Anyway, I worked out both Aug. 4 and today (6th). Two complete circuits, 460 crunches, and a mile running. I'm doing the exact same regimen that brought me the results of the last two months. I figure if I keep this up, then I'm gonna be down 2% more body fat by the end of the month, making it to 24%. By the end of the year, at the same rate, I will be 8% more body fat down, bringing me then to 16% body fat. The healthy range! Just 4 months!

Well considering the Tarahumara run 100 miles in a day sometimes, through canyons, and do that all their life, I think I'm good. We're built to be distance runners, as persistence running is one of our evolutionary traits (we can't run faster than many animals, but we can run at speed much longer than a lot of them, since our ancestors [and some modern tribes] caught prey by literately running it to death). Running barefootish should also help, since high running injuries are pretty recent, and some people think tied to the modern running shoe. Of course the lighter you are the easier it is to run as well, you don't see too many 250lbs marathoners, and I'm 170 and 6'3". I think some of our injuries come from the fact we don't walk/run enough, since it's only fairly recently that our main mode of operation has been sitting.

But yeah, besides occasionally running longer barefoot than I should be, and some minor heel pain, I'm still running strong. Most of that has been from bad form, so I just tweaked my gait a bit to fix it. Bad form and over-training are the 2 main reasons people get injured from running. Running shoes promote bad form, heel striking and long strides. Not that you can't have good form in running shoes, but they don't offer as much discouragement of bad form.

I did a few leg lifts at the gym today (squat, leg press, etc) and let me tell you... I CAN BARELY WALK! Yeah, I tried to run on the indoor track upstairs, but I was too wobble legged to even do that, so I just walked three laps and left. It's gonna be bad on Thursday. I fear it.

still been riding my bike. I have gone every night but once in the last nine days. Each night for 20-30 miles. Starting to lose some of my beer belly.

Better go buy some more beer

No real running this week, but did do about 20+ miles of hiking in HI, along with 2 miles of kayaking as well. Hiking through muddle trails marked strenuous in the rain, not the best time, but the 300 ft waterfall at the end was worth it.

Well, my leg workout plans are derailed for some time until my quads heal up. Tried to do squats today, but had a mishap where it felt like all the muscle fibers in my quads just tore to pieces. I went down like I normally do, which never hurt me in the past. I think my legs just hadn't fully recovered from 5 days ago, which is odd. So, no leg workouts until the quads feel 100%. I'm actually quite upset about that.

I went for a run before lunch today. It was hot! I ended up doing a lot of walking/running/walking/running. I took a pair of grips with me that I squeezed with each step. Nothing major there but I might as well. My forearms ended up sore longer than my legs. But I never pushed myself while running either.

Either I haven't been going all out on my 10Ks or the stars aligned today, smoked my previous PR by about 3 minutes to finish in 47:30. Not bad for 6.22 miles. Still like 15 mins off the winner, but those guys are nuts.

I've been to the Y twice this week, and since my hours have been cut...well, make room for more frequent visits.

Ran a 15K this weekend. Longest distance I've ever run at one time. I did it in 1:12:00, which I'm very happy with since that's maybe a second slower per mile than my current 10K fastest time. Also I feel ready to do a half marathon in under 1:45:00 at the end of next month.

I wonder what you would clock in at on a 5k if you ran one again? Would the increased conditioning make it easier, or would training for longer distances left you less prepared for the different pacing requirements?

Last week, I went to the YMCA 4 days in a row. I've averaged 11:30 on the bike, and just over 2 miles per trial. I've also slimmed down a bit due to the abdominal crunch. I went again today, but I could only do 15 minutes due to the place being closed for plumbing repair.

You don't lose weight due to crunches and ab workouts. That is muscle toning and barely burns fat. The cardio is what's helping. It also depends on your diet.
