... Playing Bioshock. Look, don't get me wrong; this is one of the best horror/shooter games I have ever played, but there is one major flaw I just found that there is no excuse for.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

You know there is an achievement for collecting every audio diary, right? Well, once I got to the final stage of the game, I started pouring back through the list of audio diaries and their locations in my strategy guide to find all the ones I overlooked and get the achievement. I thought, an hour or two - totally worth it, and I may find some other items along with them in the hidden locations, which will be good for when I try to play through the hard mode and survive that to get another achievement.

.... The guide - and two other Internet walkthroughs that I used as a supplement - FAILS TO MENTION THAT THE DIARIES FOUND IN RYAN'S QUARTERS CAN ONLY BE PICKED UP AT THAT POINT IN THE STORYLINE. I was missing just one diary from that location, ... and I can't complete the search. The bulkhead leading to that area seems permanently sealed off. There is a kind of hint that you can never go back that place once Atlas starts trying to blow it up, but I don't remember any clear visual evidence that it is permanently destroyed, and in any event, I think the guide should have made it clear that you can't go back, anyway.

... ONE. JUST ONE I WAS MISSING!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo .....!!!

If I want this achievement, I'm just going to have to try again from scratch the next time when I plan to do the hard mode. But nevertheless, I have clocked myself at 2 hours and about 55 minutes just trying to go back through Rapture and collect the diaries I missed.

I am THIS close to finding a Little Sister and greedily harvesting her soul to assuage my anger.

"Gwahhh! Rgghh! Give me your Adam, little girl!"

... But fortunately I am Sarah's Knight, so I'm not going to do that.

EDIT: If someone out there happens to know a way back into Rapture Central Control that I just somehow am not thinking of, please let me know. It is always possible that I am ranting for nothing.

Wow, that sucks. Maybe you can get those other nine achievements while getting that one in your new game.
You should use the guide from x360a.org. They clearly state 3 are missable, and have a nice roadmap to getting all the achievements.

I always go there for 360 guides.

Thanks, insulta. I have already started the hard mode file, and haven't missed a diary so far. ... 'Might as well do this while the game's layout is fresh in my head.

It is no new fact to SK and I that it seems that half of every yuppie on the internet think they can write walkthrough for a game. Gamefaqs is RIDDLED with just plain flat out bad walkthrough. And it's all one simple problem: They all assume you know something that you might not. If they are reading a walkthrough in the first place, then apparently there are things they might not be aware of! Write that sh*t down!!! Not only that, they will do really bad job on boss strats and such. I once read a walkthrough for the final boss of one game and the walkthrough's strategy was, "I was level 99 at this point so he wasn't hard at all."

f*ck you, retard. I wanted enemy stats. Attacks used... you know, that kind of sh*t. I don't care how well you were one of your run-throughs of the game. I wrote a full FAQ for Chrono Trigger (go figure) and I covered every f*cking nook and cranny there was in the game. Which is what EVERYONE is suppose to do. If you aren't going to be thorough, then don't do it at all. GEEZ!

Anyway, I feel your pain man. Best of luck on hard mode.

I hate it when games do that. Final Fantasy 8 and 9 were the biggest offenders that I experienced. Once you hit that last disk, you better hope you didn't miss anything.

Okay, guys, I am in serious trouble here. If anyone at all can help, please pm me or make a post here.

Apparently there was another diary I was missing all along the first time, called "Ryan Takes F (for Fontaine, I guess) Futuristics", and everywhere I have looked on the Net so far, from Insulta's link to XBox360Achievements.org, to every FAQ for Bioshock at GameFaqs, to a few random websites by google searching the diary title, give one of two locations: 1) in the Haphaestus Bathysphere station, or 2) "in a crate near the Circus of Values machine" in the room just beyond the Haphaestus Bathysphere station. I absolutely cannot find this either way. So, if anyone knows otherwise, or has more specific directions, or knows of a certain requirement to getting this diary that I may not know of (for example, the requirement I earlier spoke of about needing to grab the diaries at Ryan's HQ before I slay him, otherwise they can never be picked up), please let me know. I don't know why I am suddenly so gung-ho about getting certain achievements, but I guess it's the fact that when I innocently went after this the first time, like I said I ended up wasting almost three hours of play time for nothing, and I just can't let it go.

Remember, the diary I am now missing is called "Ryan Takes F Futuristics".

Did you check to see if you already got it? That sounds like one you'd naturally run across just from playing. I looked around and found the same thing as you. I looked on youtube, and I just found a video of someone playing it from their messages menu... not actually picking it up.

Though I'm pretty sure now that it's definitely in a crate. I'd suggest smashing absolutely everything you can find in that room.
