This thread was due for a rather large update as it's been quite some time since this all began, so now here's a more organized first post. I'll just put links to all the models I've done to the Deviant Art account I've uploaded them to. Details about the model will be there.

List of models I've completed (chronological order):

Master Sword
Portal Cake
Link
Crono and Magus
KOS-MOS
Illusion dragon (Video)
Life-sized Majora's Mask
Life-sized Headcrab
Tiny SNES
Earthworm Jim
L4D Tank
Megaman Legends characters
Fierce Deity Link
Tingle (Video)
Megaman Volnut

I knew about papercrafting for quite some time, and it eventually dawned on me that it seems like something that I could kind of get into. So I gave it a go with a template for a Mario hat. I didn't have any of the proper tools or print it on the right kind of paper either. In fact, I used regular printer paper, scissors, and tape. And well... it turned out-

Image

-rather horrible.

That aside, I wanted to see if I had the patience to put the effort into it... and for the most part, I did. I rather enjoyed it as well. quite some time ago, I made a trip online and got some PVA glue, a X-acto knife, and card stock paper. I also pulled some stuff around the house for a cutting board and a straight edge for scoring and such. And the rest is pretty much history.

Update: 12/28/10

So guess what. I've finally started the life-size Link model I've wanted to do. I've finished the hat and hands and have a picture of the hat on the second page of this thread. Wish me luck on the life-sized Link model. This is going to take a very long time.

Holy crap, the hair on them must have taking FOREVER. And I'm assuming they colored them after they were build instead of using colored templates like myself.

I'm hoping to eventually move up to complex builds like characters. I know ultimately that I'd like to make Fierce Deity Link and Dante. But that's going to have to be much farther down the line when I'm more familiar with all this.

I really screwed up the seem for the tip of the sword (which is fortunate you can't see it while in the pedestal). And if you rotated the blade to the back, it doesn't look as good as it does from the front.

The next thing I'll be doing doesn't have as small of parts. The yellow gem in the center of the sword was horribly difficult to make due to its tiny tiny size. So we'll see.

Anyways, if anything... I like making my own video game paraphernalia.

nerdier than watching huge amounts of anime, and collecting tons of anime memorabilia? I think not.

Btw, if anyone wants to recommend a papercraft template for me to do, I'd be all for it. Just make sure it isn't anything too complicated like the ones Stythe linked to. I want to ease into those a good deal of time later (assuming I can keep at this).

Updated first post with the newest models I've made. And I've noticed that I'm not very good with really tiny parts. The cherries on top of the cake absolutely took forever... and they didn't turn out very good either.

So for now, I think I'm going to fall back and do some rather simple models. They are rather blocky characters, but they should give me enough practice to get used to methods that I'll be needing for more complex things. I'll post a few of them as I get them done.

Okay, so I have taken pics of all the simple models that I have done... and they were REALLY simple (all pics will be in the first post). Not sure how much I like them, but at least it's getting me some practice in. I've got a few more I'm going to do then I'll start working on some real models. I also have ordered a cutting mat, extra x-acto blades, and a lamp. So I'll be good to go whenever I start doing this for real.

Bumpxxorz. I pretty much took care of all the easy models I want to do. And there's an optical illusion one I took a video of. You should give it a looksee.

the dragon is amazing. What do you mean you have to keep one eye closed? I saw it fine without closing my eyes.

Because in a video, you don't have depth perception. IRL you do, and it ruins the effect. So in IRL, you have to keep one eye closed to get the same effect as the video. Anyways, thanks for the comments guys.

It looks nice. The 3D effect came out pretty well with one eye closed.

I have just seen the craft Lantis did of KOS-MOS in person .... and it is something to be properly worshiped.

Okay, so I found out ultimately what I would like to do:

This.

I found the template for it, and it'll be 831 parts spread over 197 pages of card stock. What's more, I found a template for Dark Link instead of regular Link. And I'm totally all up on that. I've already opened and played around with the PDO file. I'm going to be making a few changes to it. Like the color pallet for the Hyrule Shield and Master Sword looks kind of crappy, so I'll be downloading the default template so I can just make the normal sword and shield. Also, the Dark Link model had normal eyes. And originally I was going to just edit the eyes to be the normal blood red color, but I think what I'm going to do instead is buy some red glow-in-the-dark paint and use that on the eyes instead. I dunno.

Either way, this'll be much later down the road as I would like to further my skills in papercrafting before moving on to something so grandiose. But eventually, I will do this.

I think the next few things are going to be a life-sized Majora's Mask and wearable Head Crab from Half Life.

So I finally finished up one of the bigger models. Everything that I have done know was quite small. But this weekend I spend the time and made something a bit bigger. In fact, it turned out quite a bit bigger than I had expected. Pics in first post.

Oh, and I also made a little Yorkshire dog for Rachael, seeing as she likes that breed. But it was only a one-sheet papercraft, so I won't even bother with pics for that.
