This is the thread in which we'll sing the general praises of our civilization's most versatile item, and report the stories and incidents which promote and establish its goodly virtues.

For starters: Duct Tape In Physics

Quote:
The key challenge was getting the vanes to move in the forward direction only, which the scientists achieved with - somewhat surprisingly - duct tape.

Whenever you encounter something of relevance to duct tape, or feel a bout of litany in its favor coming on, dig up this thread.

"Duct Tape is like violence: if it doesn't work, use more."

Silence is golden.

Duct tape is silver.

Duct Tape can be recognized for its usefulness in that it can serve as a topic for thread creation.

Back when I was in college, I made a full sized book-bag out of duct tape. It even had pockets for writing utensils and such. There was a group of friend back then that I hung out often, and it eventually became habit to either sign or draw on my duct tape book bag. Eventually, a hole would work it's way into it... but all you'd have to do is slap another piece of duct tape on it... which also gave more space for signing/graffiti.

And another time, I took the digital face out of a watch and made a digital duct tape watch. It wasn't anything special, and getting it on and off was a bit of a chore, but it was awesome.

And finally, I made a bi-fold wallet. I even cut out a little square from a ziplock bag to make a window for my driver's license and such. I don't have any pictures of these items because back then, I didn't really save data. It wasn't till years later that I got my first real computer and started keeping track of pictures and sh*t.

I used duct tape last week to cover the holes around the air conditioner. I love not having insects and sh*t getting up in my grill.

duct (duck) tape is great for ghetto rigging. Also, I haven't used duct tape in a great many years.

Mythbusters had a special on the mythical uses of duct tape.

Twice.

The most impressive examples were that you can hold a car in the air with it (at least for a short time), you can build a boat out of it, and you can build a rope bridge out of it.

throughout high school i always had a roll of duct tape with me. and used it for basically everything. fixing bags, books, affixing headphones to tape recorders. i got a massive roll of black duct tape over a year ago now i guess. and just used it yesterday for something or other. but i have to say i appreciate tape in all forms. it is useful to have tape that you can see through as well for sticking labels of ripped paper onto things like hard drives or notebooks etc.

also @staff... what you should have done is put duct tape over his mouth. but i suppose that would have been too appropriate.

It would've been very appropriate for the topic. And for on topic goodness, I haven't used duct tape all that often. Never really needed to.
