I am working on a video series about RPG Maker Tsukuru 4 in my free time, which is much easier to work on in short spurts, as well as more relaxing ('cause I'm tired at the end of the day and don't always feel like writing assembly code or going through a couple million lines of compiled code written in Japanese).

The video series is going to explore as much of the software as possible, so it wont' be terribly short. I just got a new microphone and pop filter, and right now I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to cover, in what order, and how to make it more interesting than just me going through a bunch of menus.

The videos will be of the in-progress translated RPGT4 that I'm working on. So parts of it will be in Japanese, and parts in English (I'd like to say somewhere around 50/50). But you'll all be able to see my translation work for yourself soon enough. Below I have indicated the progress with the translation for each part of RPGT4.

I am planning on publishing the series on my seldom-updated blog (link in sig), but I will make announcements here with the release of every new episode. Further, I am planning on releasing each video in 720p HD in high & low quality versions for the bandwidth-impaired.

I'm not too far into the planning atm, but here's my tentative outline:

White: Tentative
Pink: Finalized
Yellow: In Progress
Blue: Complete

  • Episode 1 - Run-time: ~10m

    • Introduction Segment
      • Thutmose Introduction
      • Brief history of RPGT+M
    • Main Content
      • Title Screen - Translated
      • Sample Game (Dray may be LPing the sample game when he finishes translating it, and I won't step on his toes, so it will just be a very brief preview)

  • Episode 2

    • Main Content
      • Main Editor Screen - Translated
      • Making a Title Screen - Translated (needs tweaking)
      • Making a Map - Translated (needs tweaking)

  • Episode 3

    • Main Content
      • Making Magic - Translated (needs tweaking)
        • Magic - Translated (needs tweaking)
        • Summons - Translated (needs tweaking)
      • Jobs - Translated (needs tweaking)
      • Items - Translated (needs tweaking)
  • Episode 4

    • Main Content
      • Preferences & Settings - Translated (needs tweaking)
        • System - Translated (needs tweaking)
        • Scenario - Translated (needs tweaking)
      • Memory Card Functions - Translated (needs tweaking)
  • Episode 5

    • Main Content
      • Making Characters - Translated (needs tweaking)
      • Making Monsters - Translated (needs tweaking)
        • Monster Units - Translated (needs tweaking)
        • Monster Map - Translated (needs tweaking)
  • Episode 6

    • Main Content
      • Eventing System - Translated (needs MAJOR tweaking)
    • Recap
    • Conclusion

Once I start writing my scripts, and finalizing things, the above outline will be changed/updated if at all.

If there are any special features, specific topics, or anything else that you would like me to include in this series, please let me know ASAP.

While I am doing this for the community (and hopefully to convince agetec that we really, really, want a new maker in the States), I'm also doing this to learn more about video editing (which is what, in HS, I thought my future career would be :p).

Being as this is going to be in HD and the game is 480p, I will have extra screen real estate that I will try and figure out how to take advantage of in pleasing ways (i.e. additional content that appears on the side(s) of the screen at appropriate times).

As of yet, I don't have a time-table. But I'll post updates as things move along.

I hope to make this interesting and that people will enjoy it. Again, if you have any ideas or things you'd like to see, please let me know.

I got the dialog for the first episode recorded and edited. I estimate that the first episode will be about 15 minutes long.

Now I have to record the game-play, download several dozen images from the net, and edit it all together. I'm hoping to get it done in a couple days. *fingers crossed*.

Looking forward to it. I know just enough to get to key areas of the maker like the spell animations and summon CGI. I've played around in the dungeon editor and item creation, but that's about it. Also, this might be great in the case that Agetec gives us a thumbs up and we're allowed to release the patch... by that time, these videos will have us familiar with the game's inner workings.

Yeah; I'm sure there's lots of stuff that people who own it don't know about. But seeing even half of it in English really makes things "click" better.

Well, there's going to be a bit of a delay. I know, big surprise.

I got a promotion today. Along with more hours. It's the second time it's happened since I started working at this company six days ago. :P

So look to this weekend, thereabouts. I won't have time to work on it until Friday, after work. So I'm shooting for completion & posting on Sunday evening. *fingers crossed*

It's more than half done, I just need to finish the last three minutes (mainly aligning the audio narration with the video of the game). The rest of the work will mainly be on the "Thutmose's Workshop Productions" screen, and the title screen for this series. I'd like to do something special for them, and it's been a few years since I've done video editing so I may be a bit rusty.

I've decided to take summer off from college. My new job is a lot of work, and since I always thought of college as mainly being just a waste of time and a major PITA, I'm certainly not sad.

In three months, I'll have a better idea of what's going to happen at my new job, and then I'll decide whether or not to continue with college.

On the plus side for everyone in the RPGM community, that will mean that I'll have more time to work on RPGM related projects. It will also mean that I'll be less tired, overworked, and be able to produce better quality work overall.

I'm still shooting to release this first episode on Sunday. Now that I don't have to worry about going to class next week, I feel a lot better.

Don't take my silence until now as apathy. I'm very interested in seeing what's been going on so far.

Thanks Ix.

Update: I got a lot of work done today. The first episode is 99% complete. I just have to add in one music track, then render it (and make sure it's all okay).

I shouldn't have any problems getting the video posted sometime tomorrow evening.

Great video man. You might not have covered much in way of RT4, but you definitely put a good deal of content in the beginning. Your presentation is great and I'm highly looking forward to your next videos.

And I would also like to echo how under-rated Dray's RPG Maker LPs really are.

Awesome work.

Thanks. ^_^

I'm really hoping to make the next episode a lot better, and really packed with content. It's going to take me a bit to get the materials together for the next one (being as it's going to cover map making, and there are lots of tiles to show off). And I'd like to show every nook and cranny of the software - without the episode being three hours long. :P

Great video, yo! I thought the whole introduction and everything was quite cool. It shows the effort you put in.

I have updated the first post with the translation status. As you can see, pretty much everything is done - but there is a lot of tweaking, testing, and translation that would have to be done before I could say it's complete.

There are also, probably, a number of nooks-and-crannies that are still untranslated, but I think I got most of the major areas finished.

Other than that, I am continuing to work on episode 2. No eta right now.
