I made one of these topics a while back (Link) and I wanted to make this new one as something a bit more serious. If there is an idea in the old thread that you would like to see, then repeat/rephrase it in this topic.

These are the projects I have on my list right now, mainly to consider after I'm done developing Kupid:

  • RPG Maker 1 Sprite Generator
  • DexDrive replacement
  • RMXP Resource Sharing Site

What I want are ideas for RPG Maker related projects that you would like to see made a reality. Anything technical in nature. Don't worry about whether or not it's possible, that's for me to determine.

Something I've always wanted RPG Maker 1 to do is enable users to modify button presses. Say, using R1 for a certain action.

Double post!

Actually, I thought up an idea I'd like to see happen. A portable PS1 system. Portable RPGMaking on the go! Something I've always wanted. It's not impossible either, as many people have made these sort of things for years now.

@ 1ce: I accomplish portable RPG Maker using my PSP. Lantis and I have both confirmed you can transfer saves back and forth using a couple programs that he found from years back. It requires a PSP with Custom Firmware, a RM1 disc to make an eboot from, a dexdrive, and you're set. I already laid out how to put CFW on a PSP as well as how to make eboots in the Hacking the PSP thread, and I am sure we can find those save conversion setups somewhere. I actually don't use my PS consoles to play RM1. Or ePSXe. I find that it fits the handheld very well.

You can make eboots for any game and even use IRShell to play two player games with two PSP's wireless in adhoc. If IRShell doesn't support wifi, then you can tunnel adhoc over wifi, which I also went over in the Hacking the PSP thread. But come to think of it, IRShell might just be IR(infrared) and therefore only for PSP1000 models.

As far as what I would like to see: I would like to see a web based sprite generator for RM1. It would be cool if it saved the file in a couple of format options. One that could be altered in paint or whatever and one being a format that won't need any conversions to work on PS1 memory cards, beyond using DexDrive. It would also be nice if you could name it within the generator so it shows its name in the PS1 rather than a generic name that you would have to change later. It might be a good idea to stick to just the default pallet. That way you don't have to make a separate save file just for the pallet.

Those were fun times. A tad bit frustrating, but fun. It took quite a bit of effort to find a way to get the files converted to the proper format, but once that was done (along with finding out how to get the memory card manager to read them) everything ended up working great.

I ended up taking the Arc Arath 2009 demo to Magcon this year just for funzzies.
