How to convert an image to a 4-bit bitmap using Photoshop

Alright, this one is pretty cool. Say you have an appropriately-sized image ready for RPGC like this one:


This is a png with rich colors and all that. You might want to go the simple way and just save it immediately as a bmp in Photoshop, but zomg, Photoshop doesn't have an option like that!

This is true. You have to do a bit of work.

1. Open your file.
2. Go to Image > Mode > Indexed Color...

3. In the Indexed Color box...
Change the Palette to: Local (Adaptive)
Colors: 16
Forced: Primaries
Transparency: Checked
Dither: None

4. Press OK
5. Then when you go to save it, select BMP from the "Save as type" list. Press OK.
6. When it asks you what type of BMP you want to save, choose 4-bit Bitmap and press OK.

You're now done.

Also, that sprite sheet is a hint at things to come in an RM1 demo... suggested by Insultobot.
