Illimitux.

So, everyone knows about the limitations of sites like MegaVideo, Veoh, MegaUpload, Rapidshare, and more right? Well, there's actually a Firefox addon that bypasses this.

I was calling shenanigans at first, but after trying on another computer first, it's actually quite legit. Once you install it, restart Firefox and right click anywhere and you can go into the Illimitux settings and such. Best addon ever.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/11037

Quote:
Illimitux extension is a FireFox tool that removes limitations imposed by streaming plateforms as MegaVideo , Veoh, Megauplaod or Rapidshare. Its purpose is watching without restriction vides from those platforms. When your are in one of these websites. Illimitux identifie the video and prompts a little box in the corner of the browser telling you to remove the limitation. Once you click on it, you'll be redirected to our website to view the Full video.

For Example, if you are in Veoh, you will be able to watch a video without there 5 minutes limit. That's the same with MegaUpload and MegaVideo. In the case of MegaUpload (file sharing platform), you can stream a file (watch it in live) or download it without waiting 45 secondes.

When you'll install Illimitux for the first time, your browser will be redirected to a welcome page with links to the Frequently Asked Questions and a video explaining the operations of this extension. This obviously does not meet your start page.

I highly recommend enabling Unbridle Videos Automatically, so when you are watching videos, you don't even have to bother clicking anything. Unfortunately, there is a bit of advertising while using Illimitux's player, but it's better than not being able to watch whatever it is you want at all, right?

Are you trying to give us a reason to go back to Megavideo? :P

what about the realplayer addon? All you do is, when watching a vid, any vid, there is a small button on the top right of it that says download video. Don't know if it works on mega or not but I would assume yes.

Then your way with commercials works. I just prefer no commercials so while I did install your suggestion, I so far prefer RealPlayer. I still need to give them both more time to see what I like more.

Besides, its not like it takes all that long to dl non-torrents anymore. Speeds just keep on rising.

Well, it doesn't have commercials... just ads. Which you can't see if you're full screen. Also, while it is true that direct downloading doesn't really take all that much time (I'm running on a 10mb plan from Suddenlink), it takes litterally not time at all to stream.

Find an addon that permanently blocks all forms of interstitial ads.

Go!

The only one I can think of is probably one you already have.

Yeah, I do. Some interstitial ads still make it through. Those things should really be illegal, they're literally browser hijacks. -_-;

You know, the kind that shows you a quick glimpse of the page you're trying to get to and then covers the whole thing with a full-browser ad and a frame with a skip this ad button. That kind of sh*t.

It's almost as irritating as some of the ads that Yahoo has been using lately, the ones with giant animations that go over top of other text on the screen.

I especially hate those ads that talk to you. Worse if you're browsing a webcomic or something, and you're hearing "Congratulations, you won!" on every page.

The ones you are talking about, Dray, can be taken care of with the above plugin. But what Stythe is talking about is bascially re-directs. Megavideo has a HUGE problem with that. They'll even resize your browser window, and with dual screens... will change which screen it is on. Highly annoying. But since I've been using Illimitux, that hasn't been happening at least. As for the image ads moving over text and stuff.... that's just beyond me.

But yeah, not much anyone can do about re-directing.

Here's some others I recently found and enjoy.

CoolIris- (OK I really like this one!) The Cooliris 3D Wall -- Simply the fastest and most stunning way to browse photos and videos from the Web or your desktop. Effortlessly scroll an infinite "3D Wall" of your content from Facebook, Google Images, YouTube, Flickr, and hundreds more.

Coral IE Tab- An enhanced version of IE Tab which enables you to use the embedded IE engine within tabs of Mozilla Firefox. It supports Adblock Plus in IE, and can sync cookies between IE and Firefox.

Download Status Bar- Replace the DL pop up window with a customizable info rich bar that auto hides as dl's finish.

FabTabs- Takes color from the page and colors the tab the same.

Fastest Fox- Save time by speeding up repetitive tasks. Get faster, parallelized downloads, auto-loading of next page, improved searching, and more. FastestFox will dramatically enhance your productivity! It allows you to highlight text and search quickly as well as load MANY pages (as many as you scroll through) rather than hit next, then have to go back, etc. Just trust me- Try it out.

Flash Block- Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it.

Fox Tab- 3D in your browser! FoxTab brings innovative 3D functionality to your Firefox.

Last Tab Close Button- It shows Close button on the last tab in Firefox 3.5*, which closes the last tab but not the browser. Works great with an Opera Speed Dial type add on.

Personal Menu- "Menus Toolbar" item is now available in Toolbar Context Menu and you may hide it forever! You can now fully customize the Menus Toolbar.

Tab Scope- Preview and navigate tab contents through popup. Just hover over a tab to preview it.

TinEye Reverse Image Search- TinEye is a reverse image search engine. The plugin adds a right-click menu item that allows you to search for an image to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions.

WOT- WOT, Web of Trust, warns you about risky websites that try to scam visitors, deliver malware or send spam. Protect your computer against online threats by using WOT as your front-line layer of protection when browsing or searching in unfamiliar territory. WOT's color-coded icons show you ratings for 21 million websites - green to go, yellow for caution and red to stop – helping you avoid the dangerous sites.

that's some really awesome stuff. I'll be using a few of those myself. Also, changed thread title to be more appropriate.

I just had to post again about how much I love the Personal Menu Add-On. Have you tried it? You can completely eliminate the Menu Toolbar from the browser and just have an all inclusive button! Really cleans up the look of firefox.

::edit:: and I am really digging Fastest Fox add-on. Really speeds up Google searches. Instead of hitting next page, just scroll down "past" the current page and it will load the next page almost instantly! I think it preloads some of it with the current page cuz its way faster than loading the pages individually. I dunno how it works but I love what it does.

k I am using some more and have to share.

The MOST important one is GreaseMonkey. With this, you can install user scripts to do many things but most common is altering youtube and setting preferences. LOVE THIS. Set to autobuffer, disable autoplay or just delay it, customize the page colors, default player size options, and the list would literally take half an hour to type out so I will just stop here.

Another is Pimpoflage. This autohides the status bar and navigation bar. I set it to only hide the status bar. Make the screen a bit prettier with those few extra pixels on the bottom.

Status Address Bar shows the url of a link in the address bar when you mouse over it. Useful when you hide the status bar.

Omnibar seamlessly integrates the search bar into the address bar. Its so pretty.

There was a adblock update recently. Seems to work on flash aps a little bit better. I always had problems getting the block button to appear on a good deal of flash ads.

Been a while. I uninstalled a few of the addons I didn't use everyday.

I also installed a few more. Recently, I installed InvisibleHand. (The Video Ad topic made me think of this)

InvisibleHand looks at a product you are viewing and compares the price with a crapton of other sites and lets you know if you are paying too much.
Quote:
Automatically shows a discreet notification when a better price is available on a product you're browsing. Covers over 100 retailers in the US, UK and Germany.

I really like this one. It actually took some business from a few regular sites like NewEgg.

You said newegg... that's all I need to know.

Also, since this thread, I've been using Greasemonkey along with the Youtube Enhancer script, and I couldn't be happier. It just about fixes all the problems I had with Youtube, gives me several options, and direct download links to all videos, yadda yadda yadda... it's awesome.

So how about that My.Freeze.com addon? Yup, it sucks. And apparently, it's hijack adware. I don't even know how it got on here. It's prevented me from being able to access multiple sites, like the Pav. I disabled it, but it won't let me uninstall it. Just great. And from what I hear, there may be multiple of its files to remove.
