Gulshog has found a surprising bit of info over at the Pavilion; a new RPG Maker is headed for the DS. Options include sending your created games over Wi-fi.

Quote:
Enterbrain formally announced a Nintendo DS installment in the long-running RPG Maker series this week. Called RPG Tsukuru DS, the title's due out January 28 in Japan for 5460 yen; no US release has been announced.

As with all the many other RPG Makers released in the past, RPG Tsukuru DS allows you to make your very own Japan-style RPG, defining everything from characters and world maps to monsters and equipment. The tools are all touch-pen compatible, making the creation process a lot faster than before, and you'll be able to use the Wi-Fi/wireless connection to exchange game data with your friends, although the exact details on that are still unknown.

You're free to create all your own graphics for your would-be megahit, but for the lazy, RPG Tsukuru DS comes with over 800 character-building parts, 1500 map parts, over 150 pieces of music, and everything else you need to get rolling immediately.

The RPG Maker series has been around in one form or another in Japan since 1992. The latest version, RPG Maker VX, was released worldwide by Enterbrain last year for Windows PCs. The last English-language console release was the PS2's RPG Maker 3 (2005).

Ignore Bo's comment, Agetec.

Don't ignore Bo's comment. Make a new one for a console not a handheld.

At least there actually is a new one.

I'm very glad that there's a new RPG Maker in the works, even if it is for DS! I might just buy the DS in order to get it then.

Yay! :)

This is highly needed. We are kind starved for new software. Most of everyone here still uses RPG Maker 1. We have a few RM2 users, and everyone else has pretty much sworn off 3. All PC users still seem to use XP, and even they are far and few between. Actually, ShadowFox is the only person who even talks about VX.

But seriously... a maker that supports it's own hosting of games that can be downloaded by anyone? Handheld, PC, or console... I could give a rat's ass, this is good news.

Also, still ignore Bo's first two comments. Make this handheld one, and instead of working on a new console title, release RPG Tsukuru 4 on the PSN with the same hosting ability that the DS version will have. All you have to do is translate and set up the sharing feature. Much easier, right?

I'm going to buy two copies of this, at the minimum.

It doesn't matter what platform it is for me. Hell, if rpg maker came to ps3 I'd buy the game (and probably the system too). Like Lantis said, we're starved for a new rpg maker game.

Besides. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to make games wherever I am.

Unless you're severely limited in how games are transferred or how many games can be stored at once, I don't see much reason to get more than one copy. :P

More money in Agetec's bank account to encourage them to produce more products maybe?

*shrug*

That is IF Agetec decides to take up this offer. Really, a port of RT4 for DS would be ideal for all of us. The DS is about as powerful as the PS1, so it wouldn't be much of a hassle.

Plus, the size of the game could be huge, since the DS carts are hundreds of times bigger than what was there before. (128MB vs 32kB)

Sorry, I missunderstood. I read sending over wi-fi as uploading to the net. My bad.

One letter typing is a hell of a lot faster than:
>->->->-X,>-^->->->-X,<-<-<-<-<-X,v-v->->->->->-X...
Which is what we've been doing in RM1 for years.

Actually, what Staffy says here is quite true. It could be at least 10x faster, depending on where the letters are. Any hope of a keyboard attachment to the DS? :p
