And you know you really can like a game if you can enjoy it even if you lose.

If I play a game and almost never win, no, I don't enjoy it. That's why I never play Chess, and never play Mario Kart DS online.

I'm pretty sure if I played against you in your favorite combo game, I'd lose almost every time.

Meanwhile, there was when we played Soul Calibur II at MagCon 1. I can't remember how well I did, exactly, but I know I managed to hold my own well enough that I could enjoy it.

Really, though, I don't see any reason to argue/debate about it. (Like just now, I don't see any reason.) We simply like fighters for two different reasons. You like the combos, I like the fact that I'm able to choose to defeat my opponent with either my sword, fist, foot, knee, head, tail, or pinky finger. And on that note, why was MewTwo so underpowered?

We used to play some SF2 (not sure which version but wasn't the default) in my computer class when we didn't have sh*t to do.

I found that even though I didn't play Fighters all the time that basic moves got me through most everything.. there were 2 brothers (twins) that always beat everyone's trash and we liked to see them fight together.. but I was easily the third best (after the two) at the game against the rest of the class.

up until that point I had played MK and SF to some extent that I wasn't completely oblivious to how they work.. but I didn't really know how to even execute the specials. I was lame :)

Still, you have to appreciate a game like BlazeBlue.. I can only hope the next iteration makes the characters look like the backgrounds XD.

Again, I don't really like Fighters.. that doesn't mean I find them horrible/easy/whathaveyou.. and it doesn't mean I won't play them.. I just don't favor them :)

I also agree that the HD Remix was probably one of the best looking SF's they had as far as watching other players play it.

First off this is a much better video of Soulcalibur Combos

Now, after taking a gander at that you can see that just about every character in the game can pull off a minimum of a 5-6 hit combo, with most characters being able to pull off easy 9-10 hit combos. Some of the faster characters like Talim, Taki, And Raphael can juggle you to a good 13-14 hits easily with some combos topping off around 16. And these aren't the top combos, just some really good common ones.

Now....let's examine some of your evidence. First off, Blazblue is a wonderful game. I love it. Almost as much as I love the guilty gear series. But you're showing an extremely skewed view. V-13 is the only character in that game (besides the notable exception of Litchi, who can very cheaply lock you into a corner and string the same 11 hit combo together multiple times to kill you) that get's 40-60 hit combos. In fact, I'm pretty sure no one else even breaks 20 without tagging their ulti on to the end of it (Like Noel). And even getting to and 18 hit combo with Noel or Jin doesn't mean you actually input 18 different moves, because most of the moves used in those combos do 2-3 hits per command.

And why does it work like this? Because most of V-13's basic attacks hit 4-5 times. They do the same amount of damage as say, Tager or Hakumen hitting you once, they just do it in a flashy way that drives the counter up. Not actually more damage, just more numbers.

Don't believe me? Go look up HaruShinobi's channel on youtube. He has an entire series of videos showing off Blazblue character moves.

Remember the Soulcalibur vid above? Those 5-6 hit combos you were complaining about? Every single one of those short combos require you to enter nearly exactly as many commands as hits. Even the higher hit combos in the 12-13s usually only have a few moves that do more 2 or more hits with only one command.

So what does this mean? That you are actually inputting nearly the same amount of commands in SoulCalibur to do a 9 hit combo, as you are in Blazblue to do a 40 hit combo.

Does this make me like either game any less? Nope, I still like them both just as much. I believe you've just fallen into the trap of "Ohhhhh, this ones numbers go higher!!!! It must be better!" Trust me. Hitting someone 8 times with Ivy, and then actually successfully comboing into her awesome unblockable is just as satisfying as pulling off a 62 hit combo on V-13. The same thing happens in both games. Your opponent dies a horrible death and feels completely humiliated.

First off, I have never seen anyone IRL or online play a soul calibur match like that... never. That's just not how the game is played. I played a few round with you and Devin and whoever was around at the time, and no one was playing like that. Nobody could. So I refuse to accept that video as the norm. Yes, it's apparently possible, but come on.

Secondly, only three... just three of V-13's basic attacks hit more than twice. All of which are the close range melee (of which you could do in the air, if you want to count that as separate which would be five). None of the blades moves hit more than twice per move. Don't believe me, go in and watch that video I posted, it shows exactly what you have to hit to get those combos off. And if you still don't believe me... well, then you are just being bull headed because I've spent a sh*t ton more time in training mode with her than probably anyone you know.

And you don't have to be an absolute god at the game to do that kind of stuff either. And FYI, it I don't just look at how high the numbers are in combos to decide what's a good fighter or not. If so, I wouldn't like Mortal Kombat as much as I do.

I'll go ahead and send your point right back to you. In the times I played with you on Blazblue or watch you play with Devin, I never once saw you get a combo higher than 10. It just isn't the norm. I don't care if you can pull it off once in a blue moon. That's just not how the game is played.

Isn't that exactly what you just said? Who's the one being bullheaded now?

Just because I didn't with the 5 matches that I didn't, I can show you 3 times that ammount where it does with the matches I saved on my hard drive at home. And it isn't even just me, it's other people too... those who don't even use V-13. I do have proof, you'll just have to drag your ass down to come see it.

You have proof that some people suck at fighting games. You can get out of combos on Blazblue...no good player will ever allow the other to do a complete combo on them. The reason Devin and I never saw you do a 40 hit combo is because we broke out every time you tried.

You are being bullheaded. Fine, next time you come down we'll have to play a little Soul Caliber and I'll show you how combo are used there.

Sure thing, can't wait to see them in person for the first time ever. Also, you seem to have taken the bullheaded comment a bit too seriously seeing as you've mentioned it twice already. Look, I just find Soul Calibur too slow as the time between attacks are far in between. I'm even watching a LP of a guy playing Soul Calibur 2 right now who says he's good with link... doing that story mode thing where they give all the characters different names for some reason. And so far, he's playing the same way I've always have seen Soul Calibur played.

Fighters like Blazblue and Guilty Gear are just more fast paced and build for making your own combos out of a lenghtly move set. Soul Calibur and other fighters I've mentions aren't... at least, not to the degree that I prefer. If you like it, by all means... but I believe there are better options out there.

Incidentally, you never mentioned whether you played any of the Bloody Roar games.

Actually, I haven't. The only time I even seen the game was at the convention in atlanta the past two years...

Yeah, and it's apparently not popular enough for good combo videos to exist. Or good videos, period. I found one video of some guy seemingly good, starting off with a bunch of hits in quick succession. But then they started swatting air a lot.

No, wait, here's a couple good videos from various Bloody Roar entries.

I heard Bloody Roar 4 was the downfall, though, on account human and animal forms no longer shared the same health.

What I don't like is that most of the videos posted here are in a training room where the other player does -nothing-

What you guys need to compare it to is combo's that can be made in an 'actual' fight. Adding up combo's in training mode are yes.. good for practice.. but stupid.

The thing is.. some games have combo breakers and some don't.. and some just don't have a good combo system but added a counter anyway.

SF HD Remix had a great combo system that would happen whether in a training mode or while fighting actual players.. it was pretty fast paced all around.

I played Bloody Roar -ages- back.. can't even remember that game except what I've seen from the videos posted.. but again, training mode.. I don't remember ever holding that much consistency against a player or CPU in any fighter. Whether I was good at it or not.

Well, I did that just so they'd compare to Lantis's videos, since those are the types of videos that would get his interest. Actual gameplay videos are rather sucky.
