Spoiler Alert: “Epic” November Issue Revealed

The rumors have been flying for months. From the outrageous (some actually thought we were bought by Disney, which was quite funny), to the right on (our forums pieced together all the clues from the last issue), the time has come to lay all rumors to rest. The November cover is indeed, Disney Epic Mickey, coming exclusively to the Nintendo Wii from Junction Point and Disney Interactive Studios.

This issue is the first of our highly anticipated redesign that subscribers should be receiving around October 12th.

There are a number of other highlights, including a Skate 3 first-look, an in-depth, seven-page report on the relationship between Hollywood and video games, interviews with executives from all three console manufacturers, and much, much more.

But the biggest news is our expanded coverage online that is available to all gameinformer.com visitors. Starting at 4PM CST today we will unveil the first companion piece to the magazine: an exclusive video interview with Warren Spector about his relationship with Mickey Mouse, including a portion of his giant Disney memorabilia collection that is housed at Junction Point. We will also have a photo-blog chronicling many of the outstanding pieces in his collection hitting at the same time.

This is just the beginning of our month of Mickey madness that will unfold over the next three plus weeks. So be sure to watch our Disney Epic Mickey landing page over the following month.

We don’t want to spoil what’s to come, but we have some amazing things in store, including screenshots, animations, and tons of concept art and music.

Watch for the issue in your mailbox over the coming weeks and make sure to come to gameinformer.com for the latest updates and news.

Oh yeah, and one last thing. All GI covers from here on out will feature a full wrap-around cover. Here is the Mickey cover in all its glory. The best part, and the reason we switched to these, is that the subscriber address label and the UPC will be on the back so it no longer clashes with our wonderful cover art.

If I didn't know any better, I'd call it "April Fools".

Instead, I'm going to call it "Doomed Project". Nevermind whether they actually finish something like that, FOR WII. Who the heck is the target audience? It's too creepy for kids, but the fact that it's about Mickey Mouse is going to scare off adults, as well. Plus, it's straight from Disney Interactive. I'd be more at ease if Capcom were involved.

It's so strange that something like this even exists.

I feel the same way as Dray..

It's one thing to make a game like this.. but on the Wii? It screams kiddie to me, sorry.. even deadspace extraction doesn't exactly fit the graphics that the Wii can produce.. sure, Mii's and Wii sports drew together a lot of people with open minds.. and the controls are 'unique'.. but lets face it.. the graphics are sh*t.

Nintendo needs to come into this generation through way of graphics and not controls.. hell, the Wii does what arcades have done for YEARS! put a little pointer on the screen and you've got a Wii. They could adapt every Wii game for the computer since you can use the click of a mouse to get the same effects.

Now, I don't mean to derail or anything. Just saying that this type of game on this particular platform doesn't seem to do it justice.

No matter how 'Epic' it is..

Reminds me of that Mickey game on SNES. I liked that platformer, it was fun.

Oh yeah, this seems neat too.

Yes, definately. I remember staying up 'til midnight trying to beat the game, back when I wasn't allowed to. And Capcom was involved.

I don't really care too much about this particular title, but it kind of bothers me when I read "Why is this game on the Wii when it could be on the 360/Ps3 and have better graphics?"
But maybe it's because I don't really care that much about graphics, and I only have the kiddie console. :lol
I do agree that it looks too creepy for kids and that I'll possibly scare of adultd for having "Mickey" in it. I guess we shall wait and see.

To clarify, I'm not doubting a Wii release because of graphical capabilities. I was in awe when I played Twilight Princess (and them were GameCube graphics). It's just that the game looks too epic for Wii. Like if they put a Fable on Wii. That's the feeling I'm getting when looking at the art for the game, and I'm feeling that it's not possible. Like it won't be able to reach its full potential.

I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Let's see what happens.

and I wasn't saying it should be for PS3 or Xbox360 because of graphics.. I was saying that this particular game (from the looks of it) isn't going to be done justice on the Wii console. You can make a game as scary as you can and when you put it on Wii it loses it's appeal because of graphical limitations. It lacks atmosphere.

Aside from that.. you know they're going to try to do something non-basic with the control scheme and I'm probably going to laugh if that happens to be the game's pitfall..

I can speculate all day, but I agree with Bonanza.. I'll give it the benefit of the doubt (no matter how negative of perspective I give) and we'll have to see how it turns out :)

I disagree, both to the idea that the Wii won't be able to produce atmosphere and to the fact that you sorta contradicted yourself there. :P

You leave out the option that it shouldn't be made :)

Just because it shouldn't be on the Wii doesn't mean it should be on other systems.

Well yeah, that was sorta half my point in my first post there. :P

Exactly. The Wii has a lot of garbage, and it needs more good looking games (hopefully with no weird gimmicky controls)
And I'm not talking about this game in particular, I'm talking about Wii games in general.

Anyways, while I said I have no particular interest in this title, I am now curious about it. I suddenly thought of Cartoon Network's online game where every character were redesigned in a more realistically way (from the Power Puff Girls and Dexter's Lab to Ed, Edd and Eddy and Billy and Mandy. You can check them out here)
So I kind of wonder if they'll do the same for this title, if there are more Disney chacters (which seems will be in some form, if the Zombie Goofy thingy is any indication)

Um, that's mostly what Wii is about. :P Although yeah, not every game needs to be centered on gimmicky controls. Could be like Mario Galaxy, where a couple things use motion but otherwise the game plays traditionally. And that will probably be the same case with this.

Oh well, yeah. I think it's safe to say there will be something to do with the sensor. I should have used unnecessary instead of weird.

There's been an update to this.. and I'll find the source later but what-ev..

Apparently it's not a Wii exclusive anymore but the company hasn't said which systems it will be on.

Fun times. Now to dig up my source :)

Edit: Well! Update: Oct 5, 2009 - The rumors can finally be put to rest. The much anticipated 'Epic Mickey' project from Warren Spector's Point Junction studio is indeed exclusive to the Nintendo Wii platform, according to the upcoming issue of GameInformer.

The only problem with this is I could have sworn I read something just yesterday that was refuting this.. but meh, I don't want to look any farther if this is the definitive answer :)

Well, if it did go multi-platform, probably would be a game to steer clear of. Multi-platform games don't have the greatest track record.
