It may have never "happened," but to my childhood, the entertainment was real.

As a classic game collector, I've seen some pretty funky, cool stuff get pulled off on the NES that never got big press. My point is that all of the, cool artsy stuff we see in video games today, all originated on the NES. If you look past the pixelation, and the 8 bit color, you can see the artist in all that. You look at a game as more than a fun way to spend an afternoon, you see that the game designer as ARTIST more than programmer. You can see into their inspiration, and then you see the person behind it. As you explained that to me, I first thought was, "Well, DUH!", but as you pointed out more things the more it just cemented that that was what it was. I had never really put that much thought into it actually, but it explains a hell of a lot. Like when Mario dies he flashes the screen and then falls below the ground (He's jumping off stage, (He he, GET IT! lol!) to signify that he is no longer in (the) play (oh god, more double entandres! XD)), and why every thing seems to be made of wood. It actually explains why Mario is suddenly depicted wearing STAGE GLOVES!! (In all other Super Mario games before that he is bare fisted.) And why the opening of Mario Party 1 is a play!

The more I thought about it the more I thought, "Damn. That's just like Miayamoto. Heh." And then I smiled inside. :)

This is my mind being blown. I can't believe never saw that, true or not.

Now I wanna play Mario 3. Definitely my favorite Mario.

Never thought about it that way. And even if it's just one person's own "speculation", it somehow just makes the game seem even more awesome.

I can just see Boswer falling from the last few bricks to a soft padded floor below. Only to brush himself off, go sit in a chair and have someone come bring him a cup of coffee while Mario finishes up the scene.

And now that I'm thinking about it, that part at the end where Peach says "Your princess is in another castle, j/k", is a direct reference to an event they both know and can laugh about now that time has passed (SMB1).

Why would she make such a joke unless she knew she wasn't really in danger?

I never made the connection. I like how the little strips of water are the black edges or reflections or whatever.
