Man, SK, this list has been quite awesome so far.

Fisherman's Horizon should be in the Top 10, because it's one of the best FF8 had to offer.

Let's see, I'm guessing your top 10 will have at least:

One Winged Angel
The Decisive Battle (FF6 Boss)
Legend of Zelda theme

I'm really glad SK pointed out that Megaman X3 thing. I mean seriously. I think the end credits to X3 is possibly the best megaman song out there (though I'm a big fan of Spark Mandrill)... but what they did in the port to PS2 was just... just horrible. Hey, capcom... don't fix something if it isn't broken.

Retards.

Yeah, the Mega Man X3 thing we'll never truly be able to forget.

Actually, Ix, none of those pieces will be found in either of the two posts to come. They are great, of course, but far too expected to be on my personal list. I did, however, briefly consider the Fisherman's Horizon song, along with the sad tune that plays when you enter Trabia Garden, but they did not quite make it. I will go ahead and say that one song from FFVIII you will find in the last five, and it has always been in my top five VG songs ever since I first heard it. Can you guess which one? I will give you ten dollars, if you personally answer that one correctly, Ix, ... and unlike Lantis over that Witch headshot thing, I will pay you honestly if you do. ^_^

#10
Final Fantasy VII - Tifa's Theme ->

All I could find was the piano version, but it sounds even better than the original, anyway. ... Yes, that's right; TIFA and NOT AERIS'S theme has been chosen! I like Aeris's well enough, but for some reason I just think it is a bit overdramatized. Tifa's is nice and mellow, and attests to her sweet and gentle personality, ... everything but the part about her attraction to emo men with really bad hair.

#9
Chrono Trigger - "Forest Green" ->

Piano themes as always. A very mellow tune. Sorry, Lantis, there is nothing else from Chrono Trigger after this.

#8
Lunar: Silver Star Story - Main Theme (Instrumental) ->

I assume this was the ending theme to the Sega Saturn version, which, in that case, is actually a little better than the PSX version, but in essence they are the same. Now this is how RPG music should be, ... all of the time.

#7
Chrono Cross - "Reminiscence"

#6
Final Fantasy VI - Ending Theme ->
Part 1

Part 2

.... And ending game score so awesome it needed two different videos to contain it. I especially like how in the first half each of the characters' (or a pair of them) themes were arranged and revisited for the ending. Terra's was probably the best one among them.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and say "Eyes On Me".

Wrong, I am afraid. And seriously, it isn't "Eyes on Me", although that was a good song, of course. You will find out in a day or two.

I remember listening to Chrono Cross - "Reminiscence" live at Play that one year... hearing it played in real life by a real orchestra was enough to send a wave of goosebumps down one's spine. Actually, this was probably the best song they played that evening (as it was accompanied by "Time's Scar" and CT's theme). That was an amazing trip... minus the speeding ticket I got on the way back. ^_^

And, here are the last five.

#5
Xenogears - "Small Two of Pieces" ->

'No need to explain this one, I think.

#4
Star Ocean: 'Till the End of Time - "Little Bird Who Forgot How to Fly" ->

Lantis has taught me to have a healthy dislike of this game after he went ahead of me and played the second disc, sparing me of the proclaimed horror that herein awaits the unsuspecting Star Ocean fan. True, the main storyline alone is enough to make me never want to try to pick up the controller on this game ever again, but if there is one thing I can say, SO3 certainly was not lacking in music. From what I remember, it is really difficult to hear this song as it is playing distantly in the background during your first meeting with Sophia, but as luck would have it, curiosity to hear it more clearly prevailed and so here is what became one of my most well-liked songs ever. Thank god for YouTube.

#3
Final Fantasy VII - Overworld Theme ->

Never has so much thought been put into creating a musical track for the world map in an RPG, I am sure. Not in any Final Fantasy game before or after - nor any other RPG I have ever played - has the overworld theme been half this creatively and beautifully written.

#2
Final Fantasy IX - "Rose of May" ->

A very pleasant piano sonata to describe a noble lady knight, ... and for once, I am not referring to Agrias, but Beatrix.

#1
Final Fantasy VIII - "Ami" ->

... The piano is a lovely instrument, isn't it? Although I would assume Final Fantasy VIII to be more of a black sheep in the series to the majority of the gaming public, but nevertheless what impact it ever did have should be attributed to its overall musical score, which to me is by far the most notable of any Final Fantasy game with the possible exception of VI or VII. A friend of mine had once described music featuring mostly or solely the piano as having the tendency to "warm her heart", in particular the piece that you see above, called "Ami". Out of any video game ever made, out of the literally thousands of songs I have surely ever heard since the beginning of this beautiful hobby that every Mag-goer here knows and understands well, this one reigns supreme.

wow.... looking at your list, I must ask. How could you forget one of the best, if not THE BEST, Chrono Cross track?

Prisoners of Fate

Really now... my favorite in the game, and I believe it is the best in the game.

Good list! I enjoyed it.

Where's To the End of Wilderness (Wild Arms 1 intro)? Did I miss it?
I think it's a wonderful piece.

Also, what do you think of Ar Tonelico's hymnos songs? There are some really interesting things in there. The Hymnos Sountrack CDs are a bit exotic but great albums by themselves, I definitely enjoy listening to them.

Here's a song I personally like. It's just one of many, though. The language is made up, by the way.

Also, I've got this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9jBLgaMO4E) song for you which is from Shin Megami Tensei: Digital Devil Saga 1. It's a piano piece that's very touching – seemed like the thing you'd enjoy.
It's the ending theme so it's very different from the overall tone of the soundtrack, which is sort of industrial rock – also very good.

Well, I have never played "Devil Saga" or "Ar Tonelico" before, so I have not yet had the benefit of hearing either of these two songs. Both are quite good, though. Thanks for the link.

Also, as much as I like the main theme of the first Wild Arms, I cannot say that it is present in the list, just as the first town theme from Wild Arms 2 did not quite make it here, although that too I certainly am fond of. I could only choose 60, after all, and there are far more than a total of 60 VG songs out there that are worthy of merit. ^_^

Rose of May is amazing as well as Beatrix.

I think it was good overall. Though I knew mainly all the RPG tracks as opposed to a couple other things(I've never been hugely into Mega Man or RE).

Ami... it is a beautiful track. I wondered what it was, but then I clicked and immediately recognized it. I'm still of the camp that FFVIII is severely underrated.

Great list, SK. This has inspired me to create a list of my own. It will be a lot better than your list, too.

Wow,
quite an interesting list!
I must say, I found it rather refreshing and memorable. :p
Most of the music on there I haven't heard for years!
However, shame on you for not putting any Suikoden II music on there! (sigh)
But to each their own I suppose :D

and just for the record,
FFVIII was severely underrated!

Well, forgiiiiiiiiiiiiiive me, Princess.

Joey, it seems you share the same sentiment as Miss Fayorei. You are right, Final Fantasy VIII is actually a pretty good game. Really, the only things truly wrong with it were the junction system (although I have finally come to understand how it works), and the fact that Ultimecia had one of the most vague, nonsensical, and hard-to-fathom intentions that any arch villain in any RPG has ever possessed.

Miss Fay, I could tell you are a Beatrix fan. ^_^ I came to like her very much too after she came around to the side of the Light. Among every character-specific song to ever exist in RPG's, "Rose of May" is definitely my favorite.

Usually they just give characters' names to random songs, though.
