Today EA and Crytek announced Crysis 2 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

The next instalment of Crysis will be the first game built on Crytek's CryENGINE 3 and will be released for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. EA will publish the game.

"The development of Crysis 2 marks a major stepping stone for our studio," said Cevat Yerli, CEO and President of Crytek.

"This is not only the next game in the Crysis franchise, it’s the first title we are developing for consoles and the first title being built on CryENGINE 3. We are excited to have the support of EA Partners again as we work together to make the launch of Crysis 2 a huge event."

Sounds good, but can Crysis 2 play Crysis?

After all this time I still haven't finished the first. I really liked it too. Hopefully the 360 version won't be too reduced in graphics and on screen action from the PC end. If it even has to be. And for the PS3 crowd, I honestly hope that it gets all the love it deserves cuz the game can look a hell of a lot better on PS3 than on Xbox if they just try.

I was able to finish the first. It actually got a lot harder to finish later in the game due to not just difficulty, but the game's story just got a little too crazy. I was able to play it with most the sliders on medium and a few on high, and still keep a respectable frame rate.

If it doesn't have any sort of online co-op, then I'll get it for PS3. And maybe not even then... it's just that the first one was nothing more than okay.
