I loved TNG and DS9. Voyager was ok. The original was too.

Enterprise pissed me off because it rewrote the history of the franchise. BIG NO-NO :nope I mean really. We gave warp technology to the Klingons. That's where the Prime Directive was born out of. Then in episode one of Enterprise (Broken Bow) the damned Klingons already had warp and crash landed on Earth. :skeptical No thanks. I did however enjoy it, obvious faults aside, until the Temporal Cold War. Scott Bakula is cool so that helped.

Anyway.

New movie coming out that looks amazing so far. I just hope it doesn't lose the feel of Star Trek and go all sell out on us. It doesn't look like it will and this could be a revival of the franchise. Most likely a new series is already on the table pending the success of the movie.

Anyone else waiting to see Spock cut open Kirk's skull and poke his brain?

Spock's Crib

Monty Python Meets Star Trek

And there will be a new game that looks amazing. Here's a trailer.
Star Trek Online

Just imagine if the game let you work your way up starting as a security officer fending off drunks, boarding parties, away missions and working your way up to LT Commander of Awesome and eventually captain. Then in an expansion pack let you become admiral with diplomatic missions and of course they go wrong and you have to get out. And as admiral you get to decide to go to war or not with other Races/empires/federations. I also really hope they throw in surprise Dominion attacks. Maybe even allow exploration of Gamma and Delta quadrants!

WOW! .. quick opinion .. the way they are making films these days it probably won't be very good or very star trek it will be just lots of fighting and graphics which will be cool no doubt but it won't be geeky.
mostly i don't think i really like the choice of actors. although that guy who does Sylar for spock is interesting i'm not sure he has the right face for it. =S but then at the same time can't be comparing so much to the original.
seems like to enjoy it, one will have to look at it in it's own right, not as a part of the star trek saga kind of thing, cus as films these days go it won't have the feel of the old star trek.
but anyway that could all change once i actually start reading and watching trailers and stuff later haha.
but cool! good find insult!

The old Star Trek is campy and fun. This looks like it's gonna be serious and dramatic.

Plus I have issue that no one can really replace Shatner as the super awesome Kirk. But we'll see.

In anticipation for the movie's release next month, I am about to begin a Star Trek Movie marathon. It is to take place over the balance of this week. And if there's time before the release of the new film, I will also start on the original series.

Anyone else excited for the new movie?!

Haha, Star Trek.

They rerun episodes of Enterprise on SciFi channel every now and then, and it's always a good watch. Even though I'm not a huge fan of Picard, I do enjoy watching it. It has that 'campy yet serious' vibe, and it works.

I actually sat down with my star trek nut friend and saw all 10 movies. So, I guess I'm more than a casual fan, although I haven't sen any of this new stuff.

I'm going to see this movie with my mom. I have no idea how this will go, but as long as it's not like Insurrection or the (cut version of) Nemesis, then it will likely be fine.

I swear, First Contact and Wrath of Khan are the finest pieces of each movie gen.

I personally loved Nemisis. My fav of them so far.

and ice, Enterprise and Picard don't mix. Enterprise had Archer, TNG had Picard.

The only thing I know about Star Trek is that a step-father used to say 'Dammit Jim!' whenever something went wrong.
Not sure why, really.

i like TNG but i havent really liked Voyager or DS9. im just a casual watcher though id watch any rerun i could find of TNG but sez doesnt really like anything half decent like that and hogs the tv. i liked the deeper meanings and such to be found in the series, and i have a special place for scifi.

Well I am about to go get in line. I am seeing Star Trek tonight at 7pm at IMAX. Can't wait!!!

:::::EDIT:::::

I saw it and it was a wonderful movie. I don't want to say much but the spoilers, while not specific in, may upset some.
They changed a little of the history. Major things that cannot be ignored. The changes don't alter the characters or the feel but they are rather important still. Some people murmured like they were upset but the entire theater roared with applause the entire time.

I highly recommend seeing this one in the big screen.

I concur. I came in with no real expectations of greatness and came away quite surprised.

The cast gets along quite well and everyone had good screen time. The plot was pretty good, considering that Star Trek villains are usually not that entertaining, imo.

Don't expect old Star Trek, but I think that it's a good thing.

I approve of this new Kirk. No offense to Shatner, of course.

Well, they did a fine reboot IMHO. Not a fan of them
destroying Vulcan
but I feel that because it is now obviously
an alternate time line
most if not all of the movies transgressions upon cannon can be forgiven. (Still, it would have tasted better if
they had gone back to set things right or at least stopped the destruction of Vulcan.

Considering the only thing I knew (and remember) from the original Star Trek is Spock's hand gesture, I'm kind glad of what they did with the movie.
That way I feel I'm not missing anything in the "everything that happened is from an alteranate timeline" sense. Of course, I'm still conscious that I missed little things that would have made sense if I did watched the other movies and the series

i saw it on monday and i thought it was brilliant

I thought it worked well enough making it an alternate timeline.. in fact that's what science fiction is all about right, making SCIENCE! alternate timelines and stuff is a huge thing in like quantum physics and what. any alterations of character are perfect for how much different their lives would have been and they didn't change anythign so drastically that it affected the feel of it. it works really for the thing as a whole to continue the tradition of being uberly science fictiony. i figure anyone who is a real fan of what the series is all about (crazy science fiction stories - which is what made the series good in it's day) then they'll accept this movie as bearing to that. *shrug*

and if all else fails it's got lots of action and cg eye candy and suspense and all that so it's exciting at least *shrug*
