I recently read two books:

The Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner

and

The Way I Am by Marshall B. Mathers III.

I had a more satisfying read with Gardner's autobio because he goes into so much detail of his struggles, and how he overcame them to become a successful broker. I strongly recommend it.

I am reading The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality, by Brian Greene. He does a great job relating it all to things so that non-magic-space-science-people can follow concepts.

I read a book several years ago, but never finished it.

It's called "The Lamb," a retelling of Jesus Christ's life through his friend, Biff. I think I need to go to Amazon.

Reading Lord of the Flies. Takes a while to get into, but it's really good.

Double post....because I can.

Finished reading Lord of the Flies. Wow. Great book. It took it's time starting up, but it never ceased to be interesting after that. I never read the book before, and my only impression was other students saying how boring it was.

MY ASS! :stab

Let's see....I was actually thinking of borrowing anther one of my friend's Dean Koontz novels. Now that I remember what a joy reading is, I might as well continue reading new material.

^ yeah i loved lord of the flies when i read it originally by myself but then we studied it in school and if i hadn't read it before that i probably would have hated it because studying and analysing books like that in school tends to take out the enjoyment, especially for people of the age who are in school!

recently read another one by the last author i mentioned Herman Hesse called Journey to the East, i also have Siddhartha out but havn't started it yet ^_^ ive been told Goldmund is one of his very best books though by some german friends but they only had so much in english in the library.

Updated my library card today. Can't wait to start checking out tons of books.

I've read two novels by Dean Koontz, one being Intensity and the more recently finished The Couple. The first book I checked out with my new library card is The Taking.

With all these Koontz novels, I enjoy just reading them without having any prior knowledge of what they're about or what someone thinks of them. Anyone else try doing that?

Read In Odd We Trust.

Than after that, read the comic.

I'm sure it's written by Koontz.

LotF is good, but I hate the ending. Too sudden.

I have a love for books,
my favorite author is Chuck Palahniuk.

If you're into weird, twisted and dark themes,
I'd suggest giving him a shot.......fo sho.
I'll start you off by recommending "Lullaby" :D

Speaking of dark themes, I've started the Dinvine Comedy. Haven't gotten to far into the Inferno... and I'm taking it a bit slower because it's kind of harder to take in from what I'm use to reading.

Rereading the Wheel of Time series in preparation for the 12(I believe) book. Remembering why I love it so much.

So, a while back I said I picked Manifold: Time back up after a year of not reading. I read it cover to cover in 2 weeks. Loved it. So I just started reading the sequel, Manifold: Space not 3 weeks ago. Just finished it today. While I thought Time was better, I still thoroughly enjoyed Space. Now I am starting Manifold: Origin, the final book in the trilogy. I did check online and found out there is a collection of short stories from the Manifold called Manifold: Phase Space, so I ordered it from Amazon.

CopyPaste from Wikipedia:
Quote:
The Manifold Trilogy is a series of science fiction books by Stephen Baxter. It consists of three novels and an anthology of short stories relating to the three. The three books in the trilogy are not ordered chronologically; instead, they are thematically linked stories that take place in alternate universes.

Each novel contains the same or mostly similar characters, though these characters find themselves in wildly different circumstances in each story. In each of the three novels, the main character is a man named Reid Malenfant, a brash, ambitious businessman and former astronaut who gets drawn up into the complexities of each novel's plot. Each novel starts off on Earth, in a relatively mundane near future, but eventually expands into the far future and deep space.

Each one of the main novels deals with a possible resolution to the Fermi Paradox. The first, Time, is set in a universe that is completely devoid of intelligent life beyond that of mankind and its creations (i.e. A.I. and uplifted animals).

The second in the series, Space, proposes the opposite: that life is endemic to the universe, and there is intelligence in nearly all possible places of the cosmos. The solution to the Fermi Paradox in this novel is that intelligent life is continually wiped out by cosmic disasters before it has time to spread too far.

The third novel, Origins, is set in a multiverse that is a compromise between the ideals in the first two novels: that life is only on Earth, but at the same time is everywhere. This novel solves the Fermi Paradox by suggesting that intelligent life is segregated into separate parallel universes.

I am seriously looking forward to reading the final book and the related short stories. Also, I plan on picking up his Xeelee omnibus when that comes out next year.

I am also a Peter F. Hamilton fan. I read Fallen Dragon a few times and once Stephen Baxter's Manifold Series is read, I will go into Hamilton's Night's Dawn Trilogy. I understand that Fallen Dragon has been looked at as a condensed version of the themes and characters from the Night's Dawn Trilogy so, based on my love of Fallen Dragon, I just got home from Barnes And Noble where I picked up the first two and had to order the third as it was out of stock.

Lastly, I am about to donate a bunch of books to goodwill to make room for my late, great-grandmother's complete collection of Louis L'Amour writings. The list is huge (OVER ONE HUNDRED LEATHER HARDBOUND BOOKS IN SERIES) and I am very thankful that she thought of me when deciding to whom she would leave them. They have been mine for around ten years but my great-grandfather thought it would be best if they stayed with him until I was old enough to appreciate them. So once I told him I bought a house he said I can pick them up and finally call them mine.

Anywho, since I am getting rid of some books I thought I would offer them to you all first. Not a huge list as it was hard for my to get rid of any of them, but it includes Star Trek, Redwall, and other scifi/fantasy novels. Let me know if anyone is interested. Free of course.

ohhhhhh rewall is such a great series. I own them already though. But someone should definitely take them off your hands.

Btw, Manifold sounds really interesting. I might have to pick it up. (think I've seen at copy of time at the local lib.)

^(I still have them)

I finished Manifold: Origin last night. It was amazing. I was actually bothered by the last fifty pages when a certain character died. It was a definite surprise. I also just got them in .lit so when I go back I to read the series, it can be in ebook and in short stints wherever I find free time.

Just started reading Manifold: Phase Space this morning. Its a collection of short stories that fit into the themes of the Manifold series and feels like it is right out of any of the trilogy. Got to the third story as I came here to post. I think I will have to get more of Stephen Baxter's books once this is done. The time scales that the books go through is just unimaginable. The entire history of the system, galaxy and at times, the universe. Makes you feel small indeed.

Today I purchased Flowers for Algernon. This is likely the last book I'll purchase that I read in high school and am revisiting (with Brave New World and Ender's Game being the previous two book in this particular club).

It's been long overdue for a revisit. I've wanted to read this book for well over a year, but never got the cash or drive to find it. However, with my new job and always changing needs for entertainment, I tracked down this book, and can't wait to start reading it.

By the way, did you ever finish The Divine Comedy, Lantis?
And do you remember which translation it was?
