I'm seeing more and more people swearing nowadays, and it's to the point where nobody even bats an eyelash when somebody says "damn", and you see it said plenty on primetime TV on so-called "family-friendly" shows. I'm not sure I like the direction this is going. Honestly feels like I'm the only clean mouth left in the world. Quoting examples, aside.

I cuss around people i'm comfortable with (save parents). I'm a bit more clean around new people and in a professional setting.

"Damn" is still considered a swear word? I'm deffinetly gulty of this. At least around my friends. I personally don't really see the big deal, but I generally try to respect people that don't like it. To me it's kind of like smoking. I don't smoke, but as long as people that do don't around me I'm cool with it.

I hate to say it Dray, but it's becoming a LOT more socially acceptible these days. I don't really see it going away anytime soon.

It is still not "appropriate" in a professional setting so you are unlikely to hear it at work unless you are talking to a close friend but even then when people are at work they switch modes.

In public I think it is perfectly appropriate to cus. Public is neither owned by tradition, nor children, nor religion. It is there for everyone.

That having been said, it is mature to treat public as communal so if you know cusing will cause others uncomfortability then you likely shouldn't do it, unless it will cause yourself more uncomfortability not to be free to express yourself.

I guess it isn't offensive anymore. Apearantly, it is okay for one of my customers to be yelling f-bombs through the phone while four impressionable children are right at the next register. :(

I think here is a good time to point out thta a woman showing their belly button on the TV screen was a problem way back as far as 20 years ago. Go to MTV or BET... and see just how much THAT has changed.

I'm suprised word usage wasn't desensitized long before now.

Speaking of, Ep10 of my Ronin Story LP is uploading to Viddler right now, and that has a kid swearing which I comment about. That's what I'm especially worried about, is kids beginning to swear.

Yeah, I think that's where the problem is. As mentioned above kids are very impressionable. Then they might start saying it at school and a bunch more kids will be cussing up a storm. I think with kids they don't know when it's "appropraite." They do it because they think it's the "cool" thing to do.

Like Bo mentioned older kids and adults generally know when it's time to switch to professional mode. I think thats where younger kids are more inclined to just belt stuff out. That is kind of sad, especially for their teachers. People should at least try watch their tongues around kids.

I like how you guys say 'cuss' it's kind of cute ^_^

when i saw watchmen i was really surprised by the amount of blood and the degree to which sex was explicitated (what word Should go here? @.@) in the film. i don't see films very often so i've obviously missed a large period of where blood, violence and sex have been desensitised quite a bit .. we snuck into an 18a film (bad santa) when i was 16 and it didn't even have as explicit of sex as this film!

I don't know why this would make you worry. I do understand that you don't want people to discriminate against someone in reaction to the fact that they are swearing at inappropriate times.

But otherwise what is wrong with it? It is actually pretty good to swear, you just have to learn the proper timing, phrasing, etc. Like anything that is beneficial to an adult (in this case possibly to properly express ones feelings), then why not start training as a kid.

And we can all help reduce the discrimination toward those who swear by ourselves not holding it against them.

I believe there should be an obvious difference made between those who swear appropriately and those that just curse for the sake of cursing.

Cursing can enhance a persons vocabulary when used sparingly and appropriately. Otherwise the person is just being an uncivilized ass.

That being said I generally curse like a sailor. :D

I wonder what Xbox Live would be like without cursing...
