I was wondering if there is a significant difference between the Action Replay max/ Max drive and one of those USB flash sticks. I seem to remember that that is basically all they are. Sure, there is a software package, I bet, but those can be acquired through other means.

Point is that the age of the PS2 is slowly drawing to a close and I'm finding it more and more difficult just to find PS2 MEMORY CARDS and Controllers, let alone a specialized peripheral like the max drive.

But Flash sticks?

:D

They are almost as common as dirt. You can get little 512Mb ones in the discount bin at wal mart for like 3 bucks it seems.

So what is the major difference?

The Max Drive is basically just a USB flash drive, yes. But, you still need the Max Drive disk (or maybe Action Replay Max Evo). The PS2 doesn't recognize the flash drive on its own.

Ahh. Ok. I guess that makes sense. I suppose it works by interfacing the two storage formats at the PS2.

Well, I guess that settles that then I guess I'll have to track one down.

Fudgenuts. :/

I've been buying memory card 2-packs (red and blue) whenever they're on deep discount at Amazon. I think I currently have three sets of "red and blue" (one in use, others still in package), and three blacks (two in use).

Considering that I always keep a backup, that should be enough for a decent number of games. Of course, after I fill a card with three RM3 games and release them, I won't need the backup card anymore, so I'll be able to cannibalize it and use it as a backup card for new games.

As for the AR Max Evo, I've only got one. Look at Amazon. They may still have it. Make sure you get an Evo. There's a version of the AR Max that doesn't come with a flash drive (they call it a Max Drive, but same difference).

It's more a matter of being able to port the game files, not a storage space issue.
