wikipedia wrote:
Cymothoa exigua is a parasitic crustacean of the family Cymothoidae. It tends to be 3 to 4 cm long. This parasite attaches itself at the base of the spotted rose snapper's (Lutjanus guttatus) tongue, entering the fish's mouth through its gills. It then proceeds to extract blood through the claws on its front three pairs of legs. As the parasite grows, less and less blood reaches the tongue, and eventually the organ atrophies from lack of blood. The parasite then replaces the fish's tongue by attaching its own body to the muscles of the tongue stub. The fish is able to use the parasite just like a normal tongue. It appears that the parasite does not cause any other damage to the host fish.[1] Once C. exigua replaces the tongue, some feed on the host's blood and many others feed on fish mucus. They do not eat scraps of the fish's food.[2] This is the only known case of a parasite functionally replacing a host organ.

HOLY CRAP!!
So this thing eats away the tongue and replaces it.
What the hell is going on in the world?! Stuff like this makes me think we need to figure out what is really in the world's oceans.

Yeah, but did you hear the one about the shrimp which catches prey through nuclear fusion, or that other shrimp who can see color-fields inconceivable to the human brain?
Maybe there was that shark which has a fondness for dragging reindeer, caribou, and polar bears of the shore, and then - oh, hell.

Here:
http://www.bogleech.com/bio-crusty.html

That's the page with everything I listed, and here's the full site:

http://www.bogleech.com/scrapbook/biomain.html

They even have a delightfully trivial 'Origins of Poke'mon' page.

I've spent hours sprawling through that site.

The ocean is where God really got down and dirty with his creative mojo.
It half makes me hope for truth in reincarnation, just so I can return when man has adapted to water, and explore the sh*t out of it.

So, let's have that tally again:

Humans - Consciousness and Thumbs
Ocean - ...

On second thought, let's not go there.

in the ocean everythign is a bit parasitic living off each other and stuff.. it's really cool! prolly the only purely factual book i have ever managed to read all the way through was this one about the ocean and it's creatures... but it didn't even cover a smidge of the real thing.. just a bunch of stuff and awesomeness ^_^ i <3 the ocean.

Well, cows pretty much have parasites for a stomach. Actually, for four entire stomachs.

Biology is wonderful. Especially the things in water.

Great site, NLY.
