That's the time that passes between since I drowned a cell phone in the washing machine for the fourth time. Until I drowned my most recent cell phone.
And that is impressive, because they never lasted more than half a year before the washing machine took them down.

This is one of the reasons why I have NEVER gotten an ipod or a similar device. :(

Well, if it makes you feel any better, that is approximately the same score I held with drowning paychecks from my first job in the washing machine after I came home from work every night. ... I take it you lose your cellphones for the same reason I kept losing paychecks; you just keep forgetting that it is still there in your clothes' pocket before you throw them into the wash.

check your pockets before you put them in the wash or get into the habit of emptying out your pockets when you come home. it does suck washing things like bills, they tend to become rather worthless then.

Well, I did made an habit of checking pockets. That's why I didn't washed any other cell phone for more than 2 years.
And if I hadn't checked my pockets, I would have washed my wallet too. The cel phone just managed to avoid my pocket scanning.
Anyway, it still works (Found out a few hours ago) so that's a relief!

I had the same problem with wallets.

Fortunately it doesn't happen anymore.

Oh, I wash my wallet once a month. I don't bother with wallet pictures anymore.
I think I'm hopeless in that area

I'm keeping a pretty track record of not getting electronic devices wet, actually. As well as wallets. The only thing I seem to mistakenly wash is loose change.

loose change... heh...
Let's say that the only things I have never washed are those that don't fit in my pockets. Ink stains in clean clothes are annoying.

EDIT: And I just washed yet another one. I'm frustrated and annoyed at myself. Every time I do something different from what I'm used to, I end up washing a cell phone, locking myself out of the house, loosing my keys or leaving them inside a locked car.
I'm considering myself officially hopeless.

But I do! I usually triple check my pockets. . It's an habit of mine.
I was walking from the bus to my home and it started raining, so I put my hand in my pocket to prevent my cell phone from getting wet (lol). As soon as I got home, I put it on a table with my keys while I took a shower. My cell phone was in the table pretty much all day. It seems at one point I put it back in my pocket inadvertently before I changed again later last night.

But I'm just mindless like that. I used to live in a house where I needed my keys to unlock it from the inside. So I had to have my keys on me when I planned on getting out. (A thing to note is that in Puerto Rico, houses usually have a "marquesina" which is a garage like thingy, that we need to go through whenever we go out,. (something like this)
Image
Now that I live in a house where I can unlock the door without keys, I have left myself locked in the marquesina a couple of times, because my habit was to look for my keys before opening the door (Since I HAD too)
You get my out of my routine, and I'm screwed. :blush

Heh, I had a huge problem forgetting things.

Have you tried placing a "memorizer" someplace you pass by all the time? Like, if you always look at the same mirror when you leave the house, you can put a post-it on it saying "check ya pawckets". Or you can just relate the mirror to keys and you'll think about them every time you look at the mirror. It works for me... once things get moved around in my house, I start forgetting everything.

I locked myself out of my house the other day. it's because i didn't do my regular check - phone, keys, wallet, money. if i do that i have everything but sometimes im lazy and then i always forget something!
luckily my house is super easy to break into!! sometimes i leave the top of the basement window open and can crawl through that... but this time i had to climb up the scaffolding and drop down to the window ledge to open the big front window. seriously, so f*cking easy. this entire house is a trap for getting sh*t stolen, but nobody ever tries because it looks so dilapitated that they figure nothing of value could be enclosed, probably.

I used to wash things in my pockets all the time when i was a kid. now though i can't function without knowing where my phone is so it never gets lost or washed.

You know, this reminded me,
I myself have never really had a problem washing things in my pocket. (thank God)
however, my girlfriend seemed to have somehow, drop her phone into a glass of water.
The Hilarity ensued as I watched her take her phone out of her pocket and attempt
to set it on the table but since I knew it was coming, I couldn't stop laughing to warn her about it.
So yes, it's all my fault, I could have stopped it, but I found it very entertaining :p
