It's out. I tried it out. Definately feels like classic Final Fantasy IV, but with an interesting addition: the inclusion of team-up attacks. It's not quite the combination of spells that Chrono Trigger had, but specialized attacks like Palom and Porom's Twin attack. No idea yet how many combinations there will be, but considering they gave me a toturial on the feature in the first dungeon (in which a couple classic FF running gags performed an attack against all enemies), I can only assume it'll be a prominent feature.

The downside is that they're releasing it like they did the mobile game. Episodic content. First episode is 800 points with the remaining eight at 300 points each. Still, I don't know how the episodes will play out or how they'll releate to each other (I'm sure eventually they'll all come together at some point), but $32 total for classic japanese RPGing sounds fair enough. Especially compared to how much FF4 used to cost on the SNES.

Incidentally, the second episode is already available: "Rydia's Tale".

EDIT: I've played over three hours so far. If you didn't know this were originally a cellphone game, you'd never tell. This seriously feels like a real sequel to one of the FF greats. I can recommend the download so far. Just make note, being based off of the original FF4, various details like the encounter rate will be unchanged.

Episodic... no thanks.

After the final one is out, I'll just buy them all in bulk so I can play as long as I want without having to wait for them to release the rest of the game.

I thought it'd be on 360, too, but the video trailer I linked above only mentions WiiWare.

And the first chapter is beaten. I clocked in at just over six hours, talking to townsfolk and finding as many treasure chests as I could.

Speaking of treasure chests, some chests refill themselves as the story progresses. My guess is they were refilled due to the chapter likely having more break-ups in the cellphone release (there were several points where it'd show the title again).
