I for one will be getting this. I also plan on messing with my wireless router settings to allow the psp to connect over the internet with other players. I know a good friend of mine will get it too and I can play with him locally at the very least. Four player co-op!

I am playing it right now. Just unzip it and put it the folder that is inside game from the zip into game on the psp. The readme is in spanish but its not necessary. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=H10XHH60

The DS one is Phantasy Star Zero. It comes out in the fall.

And I am still in the process of getting my psp to play adhoc games over the internet. I will let you know how it goes.

They're making two games in the series at the same time. I do not have high hopes.

I hear this is supposed to be better than PSU. Problem? No PSP.

I guess the japanese players are able to import their PS2 PSU characters into the PSP PSP (lol PSP Phantasy Star Portable) but with level caps at 20 and special items won't carry over. If I knew of this and if this feature is carried over to the US release, then I would have been playing on the PS2 instead of the 360.
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/05/15/details-on-phantasy-star-portable-import-psu-characters/
They can also import the characters made in the demo to the retail version.

There is also a Japanese demo available for download.

Oh spanish! It reminds me back at PSO, when there was a letter letting the players know which language you had your settings. People would insult the ones with S thinking we didn't understand them. Good times.

I really need to get a PSP. :(

The game plays very much like PSU but somehow, it pleasantly feels more like PSO than PSU. I have already logged around 10 hours into the demo. Granted about two of those were trial and error through the J-text but I did finally figure out all the things I need to know. Like setting up a local multiplayer session to level my character after the 20 min story portion of the demo.

Of course I am playing by myself atm but when the full retail hits and I get my PSP Wifi-Max in the mail, I can proceed to connect adhoc over the internet with xlink kai. Once I get it up I will post how to do it for others to enjoy.

The North American demo is out now at the PS Store. You have to sign up to the PSN and download the Media Manager software from Sony to use it.
Here's Media Manager (free) http://www.us.playstation.com/PSN/mediamanager

And once you have it you can get the demo through Media Manager. The NA demo has a digital license crap attached to it so even though it's free demo, it can not be copied and played on another psp.

Lastly, my wifi max arrived and I followed this tutorial and can now connect in adhoc over the internet. I haven't gotten a chance to test it out, but that's because in the last ten minutes since I got it, there haven't been any other NA demo players on.

If you are wondering why I had to get a wifi max when I already have a wireless router, here's why.
To be honest, I didn't look into it or question it. I just was like, "if it makes life easier," and got it and did as they said I needed to.
