Surprised that its a 360 exclusive, but the more I think about it the more I can see why. I am a huge fan of SO2 and I will be grabbing this on day one based entirely on SO2. (In fact I bought my PSP just for SO2 remake that is still on the horizon.)

Too soon to form any real opinions but I am a bit curious what you guys think.

I wonder if this means the 360 will start becoming the system most RPGs will be on. Like how all the RPG's have been on ps2.

Star Ocean itself has never appealed to me, so I've never tried playing one.

Well, the 360 does seem to be gaining ground in the RPG side of things. Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, a new Tales, Oblivion, Phantasy Star Universe, Final Fantasy XI, Infinite Undiscovery, Fable 2, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, The Last Remnant, FallOut 3, Two Worlds, Dark Messiah. So yeah, 360+RPG=Happiness.

To be honest, I haven't followed any of the PS3 RPG news in quite some time, so I can't properly comment on that console. But regardless, the 360 has some nice games and more on the way. Like SO4

This news make me a very sad person.

You know... that game comes out a day after my B-day. Good timing Squenix, I approve. The battle reminds me a bit too much of 3, but hopefully they won't have the crappy invincibility "getting up" frames... or even if they do, give the AI enough sense not to spam attacks whilst in said animation.

I think it was in chat once that we talked about the horrible button layout that 3 had on the PS2... hopefully those got changed too. In light of SO:FD, I assume that they've picked up on their past mistakes and hopefully we have nothing to worry about outside of having the cash for it when it comes out.

The release date has been moved to February 24, 2009.
I know I won't be ready for it as I am still thoroughly enjoying SO:FD and haven't even gotten into SO:SE.

There is a new video on the 360 for this game. To view it go to all vids, all game vids, Star Ocean:TLH and hit preview. Its a non-download so its only viewable this way for now. This vid has some nice action and shows off some battles. It also shows for the first time (it think) the villains.

The style is more Phantasy Star Online than FF12 but that's cool with me because I am sick of seeing open shirt male leads that Sqare's been throwing at us since Vagrant Story. I also really liked the PSO look so that's a plus on my score card.

I am worried that the story will be huge and literally galactic but the tasks given to the heroes will be too small by comparison and leave me wondering why I had to do those things in the first place, other than to advance personal story lines. I felt that way when I started SO3. Speaking of which I am half tempted to play SO3 just for completion's sake. But I won't.

Actually, this is a perfect example of when a released date being pushed back is good thing. I too will probably stll be PSPing it up. That, and SO3 has me a bit scared... so I'm a bit hesitant to dive right in.

The battle LOOKS alright... but so did SO3's. It's I actually got in there that I realized that there was so much wrong with it. For example. If the enemies are going to be untouchable while they are standing up... make sure it doesn't take 5 plus seconds lest your AI will waste all their SP on litterally nothing. Make the special moves easier to use than holding the normal attack buttons. Sometimes it wouldn't even read I was holding it, so I would just be standing there like a ninny getting nailed till I released the button and began holding it again. And there were other problems, but I'm pretty sure I'm just beating a dead horse now...

As for the storyline... as long as they stay away from the Matrix ripped-off garbage from the 3rd, we should be find. I almost want to spoil myself the entire bit of The Last Hope just to make sure I'm not going to spend many many hours working for something that, at the end, I'll just scoff at and wonder who on earth thought that was a good idea.

On another note, it's nice seeing new posts in all three SO threads. ^_^

I am getting ready for it as I just beat SO:FD. I will be starting SO:SE very soon. If I don't finish SO:SE when SO:TLH comes out, I may or may not drop it for this. Depends on if I hit "disc 2" before then. To "preview" the game further, I recently picked up Infinite Undiscovery. I loosely say preview as they use almost identical game engines and are made by tri-ace/squarenix.

I have already preordered this as well as the strat.

I'm actually going to be starting SO2 this weekend, so I guess we'll see how it goes. I'm pretty sure I can make it before 4 releases. I don't plan on tackling the cave of trials and such this time around.

Here's the site from Tri-Ace's side. I think I like this one alot more.
Check out the "Rush" video for sure. It makes battles look like a 3rd person action shooter almost, along with some button timing during battles.

First thing I noticed is that they took care of those rediculous invincible animations. You can hit an enemy every time you hit them with a move now. THANK YOU. The link combos looks kind of neat. I couldn't remember if you could hit an enemy in 3 at the same time as someone else or not. If not, then that's another reason why 3 sucks, lol.

Honestly, all the battle videos have given me a bit more hope. Hopefully the story gets better than "Rip off the matrix and then join a circus after the end."

What about item creation and raising character skills? For me that was one of the most fun parts of the first two games, and SO3 kind of ruined it.

I would too if it wasn't for the fact they'd all be sideways... that and if the game sucks, I'd rather have it burned.

My xbox actually lies horizontally. So it would look fine on mine. Plus mines black so it would still look good with the blue. Maybe on ebay...<sigh>

But I have also been thinking about getting a blank faceplate and printing out my own decals. A friend of mine's parents (read as friend-of-mine's parents, not mine's parents- damn grammar suck) run a decal shop and I figure if I can get a custom image in high resolution printed out, then I could just slap it on and heat shrink the rounded edges and exacto the border and slots, that I could make my own SO/Lunar/Arc the Lad/etc custom faceplates. Yes that was one long sentence. But it had to be.

That would be bloody brilliant. And if it goes well, you should offer suck services to other people who may want... say a Chrono Trigger plate. >_______>
