I really feel better now about all the ps3 fanatics saying all games look x times better than xbox. They are on pretty level fields in my opinion. Yes you could argue the potential is different for each system but we don't play what-if-games. We play what you see in the link.

What do you think about it?

I'm kind of curious though, what kind of feed they were using. I would like to see a side by side with each using HDMI and Component. Also see the difference between 1080i and 1080p...

Once you own the games and an HDMI cable there's no difference. Also pretty much fanboy's would really use this, we never seen this back in the ps2 days. Multiplatforms will always look the same or identical. The exclusives really speak for themselves.

Wow. Very close. The 360 seems to have a bit more detail while PS3 has more clarity.

But the changes are so small you almost can't notice.

I never really cared. The choice is easy for me- the 360 is cheaper and has a lot of the same game selection if not more.:p

what i think that is kind of like what 1ce means ... but i was thinking more along the lines of xbox uses more shadows and ps3 uses more lights. while i was looking at fallout .... then looking at soulcaliber it was the other way around where ps3 had more shadows and xbox had more light! soulcaliber looked really washed out on xbox actually.. though it looks fine until you look at the ps3 version which is a bit HDR really, ne?
BUT then it all changes again in Dead Space... like i found fallout 3 really dark on xbox watching it but Dead Space is quite light and you can see stuff going on though you'd think being Inside a Dead spaceship would be darker than outside even After the apocolypse - but the ps3 version is very dark... then star wars, same as soulcalibur except opposite!!! ps3 all washed out with lots of light, and xbox really detailed with deeper shading @_@ then CoD4 ... some of the edging seemed a bit more raggedy on ps3, but i think that is again down to shadow/highlight ... for instance in the last 2 pictures they kind of overdid the embossing on the guy's helmet to make up for the overall darkness in the whole game. things up close look nicely detailed but things far away look like black lumps - because it's heavily shaded. then xbox 360 has more light so the edges look less raggedy because they're not overcompensating to make him visible - but then if you look at the top 2 pictures maybe you can see what i mean about how the gun looks less detailed but you can see more detail further out by the boat or the trees.
i'm going to skip the sports <_< .. i think ps3 used a lot of blurring in MK vs DC which i guess avoids the choppy edges... but damn thats strikes me as sheer laziness lawl, especially in the last picture like they used a huge blur brush and just went over everything! suppose maybe thats trying to compensate for it being so bright or something

TL;DR - for the most part it's all down to how they implement shadows and highlights as far as i can tell. overall i think xbox versions had a bit more effort put in.

when ps3 first came out there was one on display at the video rental store and i was looking at jade empire on it which always had really great art imo, but the detail didn't really seem to be that much better than on ps2, at least i didn't think so at the time.... maybe they're just taking longer to fulfil the potential of ps3, but like fay says xbox360 has just as much potential and more games are bothering to utilise that. though whether it is used at all at least there are games to play.. i mean how long was the ps3 out with only a handful of games? =P

Jade Empire isn't on PS2 or PS3 I don't think. Are you sure that is the game/consoles you are talking about?

Again, Anonymous Bo for the win.

And really, it DOES matter if you are playing on a high def TV (mine's 65") if it's 720/1080i or 1080p. In my situation, going from a 30" 720p Samsung widescreen tube TV, where both the PS3 and the 360 looked perfectly fine, to a 65" 1080p Toshiba DLP, some (most) 360 games looked worse, but some (a good portion of) PS3 games looked better, especially the smaller downloadable stuff. flOw and Everyday Shooter looked GOOD on my 720p set, but looked jaw-dropping on my 1080p set, whereas Rock Band (for an example) began to look reminiscent of a PS2 game upscaled from 720 to 1080 (especially on a TV as big as mine). And I don't mean, PS2 quality graphics... I mean, everything had jaggy edges on it.

Thing is, when 360 games are labeled on the back of the package as 1080p, it's kinda misleading (read: I'm being lied to), because the Xbox 360 can only output in 720p/1080i natively, and it is only upscaling to 1080p on a TV that supports it. However, PS3 games labeled as 1080p (as in, my newly acquired copy of the new Prince of Persia) are actually natively output at 1080p. Meaning, on any given TV, the PS3 version SHOULD look better than the 360 version, assuming all other factors are equal (which, of course, as we've already determined, are not).

Point being, it DOES make a difference if it's 720 or 1080. The Wii, on the other hand, only outputs MAX at 480p, so it just tends to look pretty bad.

From what I remember, 1080i/p look pretty idenitcal minus
the little extra detail in 1080p (in general, not the game systems mind you).

360 upscales to 1080p huh? Well, good thing the LCD in my house
supports a max of 1080i. :D

This.

Also this. The screens were at 720p. It's like giving a 4th grade test to a 4th grader and a 6th grader and saying they both scored 95 so they are equal. Of course, it wouldn't be fair to give the 6th grade test to the 4th grader... he will fail by default.

@bo - not really no, i might have been looking at somethign totally different and not realised it or be remembering wrong. in which case i have no idea what that game was ^_^ when it comes to games i generally don't have a clue about that stuff - i just see a photoshop screen really, which isn't quite correct but it's brilliant to watch!

Yes. But the packaging on Xbox 360 games is misleading, as they all say 1080p, when, to my knowledge, only 2 Xbox 360 games are natively 1080p, and the rest are upscaled from 720p. With the PS3, all the games that specifically say 1080p are natively output at 1080p, and there are currently at least 26 of them, including the downloadable stuff.
