The main game package, aptly named the Starter Pack, will cost you 500 Wii Points and will feature the first level of the game along with the basic UFO. There will then be three additional packages called Stage Packs, which also cost 500 Wii Points each. Stage Pack A will include levels 2 and 3, Stage Pack B will include levels 4 and 5, and Stage Pack C will include levels 6 and 7.

2000 points for the full game, 500 points if you just wanna try a demo. It better be one of the best games ever if they expect me to pay for it like this.

If I pay an extra 200 Wii points, can I get slapped in the face?

How much money is a Wii point worth?

A Wii Point is a Penny. 500 Wii Points is $5. And that's how much the packages cost, each. So $20 for the complete package. Which isn't that bad, but it'd be nice if we didn't have to think of it as buying multiple parts of the same game.

Usually I would agree, but maybe if $20 is a fair price for the overall game, this lets you decide how much into it you want to play. If you can't make it past level 3 or get bored by level 2, then you only end up spending $10 instead of $20 which saves you money, right?

The only thing is that $5 for one level seems too expensive so it seems like you are likely to have to pay $10 minimum to get anything out of it.

I can understand your point, but basically that means you're essentially paying money for a demo.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. Did you expect it to be free or something?

Sounds like a rip-off why not just release the whole thing in one package.

Cause that's the way Nintendo rolls. It's "innovation".

Honestly I don't see what the problem is. If you want to buy it buy all the packs for the full $20. This is like going to the store and complaining that a new game is $49.99.

I think that the first levels should be a demo and then beyond that you buy the whole game. If you still want more, then you buy expansions.

The way N is doing it isn't innovation, its a rip off.

I agree. $5 for one level is garbage. $10 for 3 levels might be OK.

I fail to see how this is a rip off. If my "'s didn't clue you in I was being sarcastic about the innovation. I know it's pointless to release the game in 4 parts, but w/e.

Saying that the first part should be a free demo is like saying the first part of a regular retail game should be free as well. Many console games do not have demos. You have to read reviews and watch trailers to decide whether the game is worth it or not.

Allow me to attempt once more to explain why I have a problem with this tactic. The problem isn't the overall price. $20 isn't bad for a full game. The problem is that you have to buy it in pieces, and for all we know, each piece isn't likely to amount to much. So when buying something like this, I wouldn't be thinking "oh, i'm buying this game for $20". Instead, I'm thinking "I'm buying level 1 for $5, level 2-3 for another $5, level 4-5 for yet another $5... argh!"

Now, if they gave us 5 levels for $15 in one package, and another $5 package with two levels, I'd be okay with that, so long as the original 5 levels felt like a complete quest.

Admittedly, though, I'm looking at this project without knowing how big the levels are, and how the levels relate to each other. Maybe there isn't really a full quest, but each level is just its own standalone arcade game. That'd make it a little better. I mean, if I'm willing to pay $5 for Defend Your Castle...

@Draygone

Are you saying the problem would be solved if you THOUGHT about it differently? If so, then think about it differently.

But if each level that you pay $5 for really is crap, then buying the game at $20 only insures that you are choosing more crap from the start for money you'll never get back.

At least when you buy it in installments, you can decide to stop paying for crap.

If you really think though that $5 isn't worth it for 1 level then don't buy it, but (and maybe this is what you are saying) if you really still have an issue with this, you can always wait until all installments are ready, buy them all at the same time and then it's just like buying the game for $20 from the start only you have to wait a little, and that's only if they don't release all the levels simultaneously, right?

That wouldn't change the fact that I'm still buying it in $5 pieces when it should've been a full $20 game to begin with. What part of this do you not understand?

Have you seen the XBox Live Marketplace?

It has over 120 demos for retail games.

Also EVERY XBox Live Arcade game has a demo.

Are you saying you have to buy the full game? If not, tell me, how is it not better to have the options to:

Pay $5 X 4 and GET the full game.
Pay $5 X 1, 2, or 3, depending on your preference, play it to the amount you want to play and SAVE MONEY by not purchasing more of the game then you actually play?

I don't understand the problem.

EDIT: Why 'should' it have been a full $20 game to begin with?

2ND EDIT: I double checked the original article and seems to suggest that you don't need to buy all the levels, so again, I really do fail to see the problem so long as the overall game of 7 levels is worth $20 because as I said above you are given alternative to pay full price and get the full game or a partial or pro-rated price for less game saving you money if you don't ever want the rest of the game.

The only difference I see if you are dead set on buying the full game at $20 is that you have to do it 4 separate downloads for the same cumulative price. I know Draygone that you are mentioning that as the problem. I don't own the Wii so I don't know if I'm missing something, but I just don't see how that is a problem. Is it the separate downloading, the separate paying, or both?

Both. To me, it's like if you had to buy each individual disk of World of Warcraft separately.
