What is your opinion on games with a day/night system, and a time system also? (Think Harvest Moon or Zelda: MM. I'm talking about time systems within the game, not games like Animal Crossing that run in our time).

Unless it becomes a nuisance, I generally enjoy games with a sense of time and day/night. The only time it gets annoying is hen it has no impact on the gameplay for me, and when it really hampers the gameplay (I'm looking at you, Star Fox Adventures).

I think we agree. I don't necessarily like a game better with a day/night system, but I do think it can be an interesting aspect to gameplay if it is well executed.

It becomes a real nuisance, for example, when there is nothing to do at night at a given stage of the game except talk to a particular NPC who only appears at night, when let's say you've already done that, and now you simply have to wait until day (or force it if the game allows) to be able to do anything usueful or fun.

I like games with a day and night system, depending on how long the day and night lasts.
As for timed games, the only timers that really bugged me was: the clock in Herdy Gerdy-PS2 (I know it was neccesary for the puzzles, but come on!) and the clock in the first Pikmin game (I really just wanted to take my time.) :P

Oh, I like day/night systems. Especially in sandbox games. Driving full speed at night in San Andreas, sneaking out of your room in Bully and completely unrelated look for Murkrows in Gold were all really cool things.

First and foremost... Majora's Mask was awesome and one of the most (if not THE most) underappriciated Zelda title.

Secondly, I do like the day/night system. It adds an extra element and more realism to the world you are playing in. Though when the idea was first introduced around the Simmon's Quest for NES era, it wasn't done quite so well. Though todays time seem to pretty much have it down.

Day/night systems? Yeah, I'll accept them. Generally I could care less if they're really nothing more than realism/special effects, but if there's some interesting gameplay elements involved, I'm for it.

Now, time limits is another story. If it's at all possible to get skrewed over because you don't have enough time and your best option is to start the game over (ie, Pikmin), then it sucks. Games should not have a single fixed, game-spread time limit. Now, Majora's Mask, that did it right. Sure, it was possible to run out of time before you were able to finish a dungeon (due in part to the insanely complex dungeons the game had), but as long as you played that Ocarina before the moon hit, you didn't have to start the whole game over, just the dungeon.

And
you could play a hidden song to slow down time by half it's normal speed (I think it was playing the song of time backwards).
