Square's just using FFVII to save itself.

dont you miss the days when square could put out games that where origonal and didnt need to recycle stories and past game material? i guess those are few and far between.

But the thing is.. I like those past materials. A new game doesn't absolutely have to have something revolutionary to be good. I kind of think that the reason so many games are coming out under our expectations is because they are trying to hard to do something new instead of sticking with what works.

I want to see more classic style games. I'd love to see another job class Final Fantasy... I loved those.

As you always say, you can play those games on the original systems.

The question is whether or not there is a reason for Square to remake/re-release the game.

The example I always use is Resident Evil remake because this is what I am familiar with. I loved seeing the game remade with up to date graphics and environments. It was a fresh take on a familiar experience.

The question is can an RPG experience benefit from this type of graphical overhall if so much of what made the game playable was the well known (to most) storyline.

What would one be replaying it for?

And why not have Square release the old version as part of a classic set and focus on new original material?

EDIT: Is a job class Final Fantasy a new gaming aspect to the original title? I'm not sure what you meant by that.

There's always a reason to re-release. Money. They know people will buy it. But that aside, if they were to somehow make the difference between the original Final Fantasy VII and a posssible re-make the same as RE1 and RE1: Re-make... then awesome. I've also played both.

I would be replaying it for the experience. To see what's changed and to take in the new environments. That and I'm just highly interested to see what Sqenix would do with it. Though, I'm still not even sure they'll actually make it. As for the old version... I guess I don't really care. I've got it on disc... the only plus would be no changing of discs since it'll be on PSN. If they did or didn't, I don't think I'd care.


The job class system is in a few final fantasies. The first one was the original Final Fantasy III. Other Final Fnatasies that gave you the ability to change jobs was Final Fantasy VI, X-2, and Tactics (Tactic avanced, and A2). So I wouldn't call it a new gaming aspect. But it's a type of battle system that I have greatly enjoyed.

I wouldn't have cared if all these spinoffs didn't come first, but now a remake of FFVII is sickening rather than happy in my balance. When the PS2 came out, I earnestly hoped to see a FFVII remake then.

If they just re-release the original game, fine, it's hard to find sometimes. My biggest fear right now though is that the remake will be performed... weird. I hope it isn't, and I hope I can be blown out of the water.

Personally, I never finished FFVII, because someone erased my first playthrough, and my MC got deleted on the second one, so I would get the remake. If I had a PS3

IMO, FF7 itself needed an update. The graphics are subpar (understandable being an early PS1 title, but you have to admit, the blocky characters have not aged well), and some of the music is more MIDI than the music heard in FF6 (and the music in FF6 wasn't very MIDI).

However, I am not entirely happy that it's happening on PS3. I do not intend to ever get a PS3, so I'll be forced to miss out on this. I am interested in seeing how they'd do it, though. The character models seen in the movie and in the FF7 teaser do not lend well to the goofy animé-inspired animations and cutscenes found throughout the original game.

Well... Final Fantasy XIII is going to be on the 360. Maybe, if they decide to re-make 7, it'll also go to 360.

If it also appears on 360, then I'll be happy, 'cause I'm definately gonna get one of those someday along the line.

I wouldn't mind playing FFVII for the ps3 but square will milk each of its games very dry until its just blowing out powder.

They've already remade 1-4 already with very little problems. 1 and 2 on PSP (which are pretty nice) and 3 and 4 on DS (three is awesome... and I hear 4 is as well). Yeah, they are milking... but I don't mind if it's still good.

Just as long as they don't touch 1-4 anymore for years to come. Aside from 3, they've brought them back over and over and over and over again, and it's kinda tiresome.

Well, they've ported them many times... but they haven't honestly re-made them that many. I think that is a significant difference.
