I'm not trying to sound pompous here, but here goes. It seems like so long as you weren't expecting to catch fish, your plan to go fishing was quite the success as it was very eventful and out of the ordinary (i.e extra-ordinary).

That's a good way to look at it. Catching fish would have been great but I did go just to break the routine so I think I will call it a succuss!

Aside from the problems we had on the trip, I did have a good time and I am glad to have gone. But next time will be better.

Fishing... license? And yo have to... purchase it?

and every state has its own and they expire every new year. here in arizona, it is $25 plus another $20 for a trout stamp that lets you also fish for, well... trout

So a trout isn't a fish? I would assume the fishing license would mean you can fish for... well, fish.

ANYWAY yeah trout=fish but that's just how it is in AZ.... Besides we don't have much in the way of water. If you have seen any of our major (and I use the term loosely) lakes then you would understand. Way overcrowded, all man made, usually murky muddy, water levels very so much that you don't dare wade bare foot. First of all you will slice your foot on the shear rock (same rocks as on land as these lakes are recently man made) and if you miss the rocks, with the water levels going up and down, there's always submerged cacti and trees. Trees in AZ tend to have thorns. While it sounds pretty bad, its actually bearable.

So with worthy fishing spots being a bit harder to find than in, say, Washington or Oregon, its bound to be expensive for no reason and 'taxed' for no reason (ie trout stamp.)
