When making a topic, is it foolish to wish that topic will live a long life with many replies and thoughtful discussion? That's what I shoot for whenever I make a topic, and I question whether it's silly to think such a thought.

What about you guys? Do you care if your topics gets hardly any replies, or is it indifferent?

I can't say I don't care if I don't get any replies, since the point of making a topic is to get some type of feedback. But I guess it also depends on the topic. I've made a topic to show a web series I found interesting, and it never got a single reply. In those cases, it bothers me a little bit, but I understand if they don't get any kind of reply.

I don't care too much. You can always respond yourself to help keep the topic alive, but I usually get enough feedback from a few responses to make posting it worthwhile.

Depends on the topic. A good example would be studio owners. Of course they will want their topics to carry on for pages on end... it's about their hard work and such.

As far as casual topics, I think it's more or less just finding people's takes on the subject and not as much about the actual number of replies.

Kinda sounds like wishing you become famous from a book you are currently writing.

Highly indifferent.

Then again, I make topics once in a blue moon.

I care more about views than about replies.
I know you can read something and just not reply to it, I do it all the time, sadly =/ But when I make a topic, I generally am satisfied if people see it.

Well, I can get annoyed when the view count rises, but I don't get at least a single reply. :lol
As I said, I'm a bit more interested in feedback than views, depending on the topic.
