So, I'm quite bored with my current music repertoire. I was willing to discover new things, but the only damn thing that plays on the radio is hip-hop and terrible trendy songs.

So, what are you guys' suggestions for really good music I should search for?
(Please include a song name if you want to point a group out =P)

song name?

hmm... basically ANYTHING by Dark Tranquility or Abyssic Hate. or Dimmu Borgir. hard to pick songs on those ones. guess I could say Vredesbyrd for Dimmu - it's a good place to start i think. *shrug*

let's stick to things i'm listening to right now.
James Asher - Tantango
^ check that song.. and the rest of that album.. it's called Shaman Drums, good album. good artist really. just chose that song cus it's playing like.. right now.

My Dying Bride - Into The Lake Of Ghosts
relaxing stuff My Dying Bride. you havn't said what kind of music you are in to.. so ill just give you anything. i'm not good at genres.. but they're relaxing sort of depressing.. quite good.

Dert Feat. José González, Common & Erika Badu - The Light / Heartbeats
ever seen that sony bravio commercial where the threw 10,000 bouncy balls down a hill? i loved that commercial.. and the song in it was like.. a version of this. pretty. good artist. listen.

Kataklysm - Shivers Of A New World
i havn't listened to them much yet... but what i have heard so far i've liked. they're death metal. pretty typical death metal.. but i enjoy that so it's not exactly a bad thing. one pretty obviously weak point. in my opinion anyway.. is the vocals. they kind of sound disjointed from each other and from the music.

unlike Superjoint Ritual which also has two vocalists but they work together and with the music very well. i would suggest checking out "Destruction of a Person"... cus it's one of my favourites. i still don't even know if you like metal at all.

also... Yellowman ^___^ Reggae. Yellowman is lots of fun. Galong Galong Galong would be a good sample to listen to.

never to be missed! Andrew W.K. !! I Get Wet is prolly my favourite album from him. he's an interesting character. and if you really want a song... probably... hm.... Ready To Die... cus it's got that awesome little keyboardy part at the beginning and it's so totally bouncy and happy and danceable ^____^

i would suggest Coldplay .. but someone might come in and shoot me or something >___> my favourite by then is "Trouble".. did a solo to that in dance one year. good song. so if you don't already hate them (which a seriously frightening amount of people seem to do) then at least give em a chance.

some more bands that i want to at least quickly mention:
Kalmah
Samael
Lacrimosa <3<3<3 seriously man, look this one up
Soul Fly
Il Nino
Machine Head
Moonspell
Otep <3<3<3 these guys too. female singer here! yay.
Static-X
Theatre of Tragedy
Thalarion (http://www.mightymusic.dk <- can't find em anywhere else actually, least i can't)
They Might Be Giants
Umbra Et Imago
Wolfsheim
Tom Petty ("To Find A Friend" and "Time to move on")
65 days of static (regal showed me these guys. very good. much like)
Gaelic Storm (especially "Bring Yer Wellies" album)
Charlie Lownoise & Mental Theo
De/Vision
Fairlight Children
DragonForce
Katatonia
Laibach
System of a Down
Taproot
Type O Negative

and lastly
Mudmen - it's celtic punk. how much more do i have to say? it's awesome.

and just watch me come back later with even more.... *sigh*

I would suggest looking for songs from artists that are on the radio, but their other songs aren't. I mean, the artists they play on the radio aren't all bad. I'm quite the mainstream person. However, I do recommend Tool. They f*cking rock.

Whew, thanks guys. I'm guessing there's a lotof rock/rock alternatives there. Though seeing "Lil' John and the Eastside Boys" in Kratos' post put a smile on my face =)

As for preferences, I listen to pretty much everything. There isn't a genre that I don't like, only the occasional band or singer.

I'll try those out. ^^

Mine's a mix of rap and rock. I also recommend DMX and his songs "Where Da Hood At" and "We In Here."

@Sumi:

Well, my rock repertoire is mainly structured around Derek and the Dominoes (Eric Clapton FTW!!), Linkin Park, Eagle Eye Cherry and Prefab Sprout, so I guess I'm not very used to death metal. Heh.

I checked it out nonetheless. "The Gallery" by Dark Tranqulity was a pretty good song to listen to. The Dimmu thing too... they seem not to follow the 'the-drums-are-your-enemy-KILL-THEM' rule generally followed by metal bands, which it's great. ^^

But, I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have nightmares with those voices. =P

And strange thing, I like coldplay quite a lot ^^ I've got 2 albums. Actually, never met anyone who hated it. I just think that perhaps it's too... slow. So you gotta be in the mood for it.

Btw, is it just me, or does Jose Gonzalez sound just like Belle & Sebastian?

Coldplay? i actually used to hate them (his VOICE did something horrible to my ears), when everyone else loved them. Yet now i don't. strange, huh?

ok. i'll have a stab at this, based on what you just said in your last post... ie; i've gone for more relaxed stuff. i don't know how much of the music i know you know, so if i'm doing nothing but naming bands you know already, i apologise ^^;;

...

Dispatch... really chilled out music. I like. try this;

http://pizza.rpgmmag.com/art/waterstop.mp3

... then there's The Stone Roses. Manchester band from a way back. some of it is really nice.

.. i like this, for example... think i've posted this before somewhere, sometime >_<

http://pizza.rpgmmag.com/art/foolsgold.mp3

er... *thinks*

Belle and Sebastian. only two of their albums i'd really recommend, those being If You're Feeling Sinister and Tigermilk. Try this;

http://pizza.rpgmmag.com/art/judyandthe ... horses.mp3

... KA and TTC have already said Tool. you might know them, you might like them. tbh, though, i... and this might be less than popular... i always thought the best thing Maynard has ever been involved in was the album '13th Step', by A Perfect Circle.

you can't argue with this;

... http://pizza.rpgmmag.com/art/thenoose.m4a (it's an m4a, sorry if that's troublesome)

i'll try a couple of other random ones... i'm just having vague stabs at what i think you might like, so forgive me if i'm wrong ^^

Jack Johnson? Laid-back guitars and all. Like so;

http://pizza.rpgmmag.com/art/inaudiblemelodies.mp3

also, i suspect you might like Tom Petty, Chevelle, Incubus, and... well... hell, loads of the stuff people have already said.

hope that helped. also... a bit of Bedouin Soundclash before i leave. ^___^

http://pizza.rpgmmag.com/art/whenthenig ... mysong.mp3

enjoy? ^^;

Fool's gold is part of GTA: San Andreas' soundtrack. I've got the whole "Radio X" from that game ^^
I've also got If You're Feeling Sinister. I have never understood any lyrics from those guys, but it's quite good to listen to to relax.
Jack Johnson is the standard 'music to be played in acoustic guitar on the beach'. Really, we've already got so much of that one that I can't even hear the melody for Times Like These or Flake that I freak out and pass away =P

The rest, I don't know. The downloads were a nice bonus =P I'll download them and listen to it and then edit this post. ^^

I always enjoy Regal's URLs just becasue of how much sense they make. When in actuallity, it does given the current time said directory was created. ^^

Personally, I prefer rock and all the like. But I've been getting into alot of electric pop and trance as of late. I would post several names but I'm not infront of my compy at home... so I'll have to get back to you on that. =P

Until then, you can probably find some good stuff here:

Hey, Regal, those are pretty good. But as you said, they're more chill out music. ^^
I listen to all kinds of songs, just depends on the mood at the time. I've got some pretty radical things like the entire Burnout 3 soundtrack (pure w00tness) and Monobloco (look for it, shouldn't be hard to find). The latter being a manifestation of samba. Samba rules. And I'm not talking about the commercial one, sold internatioanlly with the carnival. We've got almost 10 types of samba over here. ^^

You do realize that if you change your music, you're going to need to change your lifestyle. Are you ready for that? :?

I listen to rap, but I don't live a "gangsta" lifestyle.

Who says that rap is necessarily tied to a "gangsta" lifestyle?

In many ways it is more tied to a commercial pop culture lifestyle.
