I'm more of a Robot Ninja kind of man, but that isn't a choice so... I dunno.

Anything out of stereotypes.

No wooden-leg parrot-carrying pirates!
No black suit, red eyed ninjas!

Biggest twist in ninjas done recently was Naruto, with its SWAT ninja force. But that's meh-ish.
But swashbucklers...! They're the nicest thing one can do with pirates to make them interesting. Thing Pirates of the Caribbean.

So, the hell with Kage Bushin! Yay for swashbucklers swinging in ropes and rapier duels.
