What conventions have you been to and what would you like to see?

I've been to a couple Comic Book conventions in Chicago. I think one may have been Comicon (it was at O'hare Airport probably over 10 years ago) and I've been to a comic book convention in Indianapolis. I've also been to smaller local comic book conventions.

I really like and recommend (at least from my impression several years ago) Wonderfest in Louisville, KY. It is a summer weekend dedicated to movies (especially classic and modern sci-fi, and horror and has contests for model building particularly scratch built or garage kits in which you use components of kits and combine them with other kits or modify them in a way so that what you end up making is not what is on the box. (For example, taking wings from various jet fighter kits and using them to make a model of a space ship or taking a model of a World War II soldier and using putties and paint to convert him into a superhero or sci-fi movie character.)

Now that I’m not really a collector, and less of a movie fan, I’m less into conventions, but I’ve been interested to get back into seeing some of the old world.

Actually back before the internet, that was really the way to network. Everyone revealed what they had at conventions and got each others business card or were put on the mailing list.

What do you guys think?

hmm... went to Anime Evolution 2005 .. in Burnaby ... in BC... (that's in canada in case anyone wasn't sure). and magically had the money to go to SakuraCon06 in Seattle which was quite w00t. didn't have the money and thus skipped AE06 but had job and thus money for SakuraCon07 ^_^

i buy lots of art at conventions. not really fan art of manga's but original stuff, it's a good place to find artists *shrug* and can obviously find more artists through those artists later. collect all their business cards.

i'd totally love to go to a star trek convention .. but it was much too far to travel being in school and having no money.. etc etc etc.

a friend of mine is going to PAX in seattle in a bit. thats the Penny Arcade Expo... a gaming convention for all kinds of gaming. cards, console, arcade.

id love to go to chicago comicon... from what i've heard it's quite prominent. would like to go to lots of conventions though..... *dreams off the end of the post*

I went to a Starwars convention a few years ago in Indianapolis, it was pretty cool. And there I got a bunch of Starwars merchandise, including a T-Shirt signed by the person that played Darth Vader (Not James Earl Jones, the actual guy that wears the suit.) and a signed picture of Boba Fett.

That was the only convention I've ever been to.

Great American Train Show.

Or something like that. I went to it and another kind several times when I was a kid, this being of course when I was still interested enough in model railroading. Too bad I never actually got beyond laying bare track on a sheet of plywood. It was always fun going to these, though. Especially if they had a bunch of model railroading tables on display. That is, train sets complete with scenery and running trains, sometimes of a large size. Those were fun to watch.

Though none of them were ever as big as this one that was in some mall in Missouri. They rented out one of the rooms that a store would be in, but displayed a table that looped around almost the whole room. But they eventually shut down. :(

Have you ever seen the one at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago? I haven't been there since they changed it to "The Great Train Story", but back in the day it was pretty impressive. Hopefully it's even better now.

I went to a Cooking Convention in England and France ^^

They like gather some leading chefs into the convention, and do a cooking demo. There was also a cooking contest and they sell all these neat cooking utensils at a discount, it's really a bargain >__<

Down in Portland Oregon, they had a big pokemon festival (I think I still have some stuff when I went there. Lemme look...)

Yep, still have some of the stuff. Called the Pokemon Summer Training Tour, held in 99 and 2000. That's when pokemon was at it's peak popularity, so it was a lot of fun.

The whole thing was you fighting other kids and thier pokemon. I still have badges from 2000.

First time I heard of it.

Oh yeah, and I went to a Pokemon thing, too. Some big tour that was giving away Mew. Naturally, I went because I wanted Mew. Very lucky that my parents were willing to take me (and my cousin). Can't remember much about the place, though. I remember seeing videos of Pokemon Stadium, a big crowd, and getting Mew. For all I know, that's all we did while we were there. Don't even know what else there was.

Yeah, at the 2000 tour they were giving out Mew. Pretty cool, since you got a certificate and they stuck it in this cool little machine.
