DUBAI — An estimated 1.7 million Internet users in the UAE have been affected by the recent undersea cable damage, an expert said yesterday, quoting recent figures published by TeleGeography, an international research Web site.

Internet data was majorly affected as it is the biggest capacity carried by the undersea cables.

However, all voice calls, corporate data and video traffic were also affected.

Two du experts yesterday briefed the media on the current methods being undertaken by the telecom provider to re-route the Internet traffic to provide normalcy to the users.

Quoting TeleGeography and describing the effect the cuts had on the Internet world, Mahesh Jaishanker, executive director, Business Development and Marketing, du, said, “The submarine cable cuts in FLAG Europe-Asia cable 8.3km away from Alexandria, Egypt and SeaMeWe-4 affected at least 60 million users in India, 12 million in Pakistan, six million in Egypt and 4.7 million in Saudi Arabia.â€

wow i guess europe is going to return to super power status? the usa has to get their act together and fix the mess they are in. this president has to go.

You'd like to think it's JUST the president now wouldn't you...

You can't tell me that this hasn't been coming years in advance. And I'm not talking about just Iraq/Iran... but the economy as a whole.

And even if Obama, Hillary, or Ron grab the reigns... it'll take their ENTIRE term... if not longer before any real change is noticed.

It's sad, but very true.

Although instead of cutting spending to save the economy, Obamillery both want to create a massive health care plan that will cost hundreds of billions of dollars.

Basically, spending money that's not even in the "bank" to do something. It's like a credit card that damn-near every politician is using like it was a savings account.

would be nice if it was just the president but it does go deeper then that. credit can extend your economy only as far as it remains profitable to do so. once people see that your market is really over extended and probably cant grow much farther without becoming unstable they pull out, especially if their is concerns that the profit margin is inline for a crash. you saw this same thing happen in the technology sector at the end of the dot com era.

universal healthcare isnt going to solve any of the usa's problems. if the goverment wants to spin this recession around then it has to spend money on its people, creating jobs, which generate household income, which means they can spend money which in turn refreshes the goverment coffers.

the usa has a long road ahead of itself, and i only hope that super powers dont come crawling out of the woodwork to cause problems. russia could very well try to exert itself using cold war tactics and china is now rolling down a steep hill towards that same end. as it stands now even pakistan could become a threat with musharif hurtling it towards dictatorship.

cant wait to see what fun will come out of all these crazy people.
