UK jails considering RFID implants for prisoners
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/14/uk-j ... prisoners/

Quote:
Ah -- dead, eerily-prescient, 20th century authors... they just can't stop proving you right, can they? In a decidedly Orwellian turn, British authorities are considering a proposal to implant "machine-readable" RFID tags under the skin of some prison inmates as part of a plan to free up space in the country's overcrowded prisons. Just like the nightmare world described in your favorite cautionary tales, the chips would enable authorities to track the location of implantees using satellite and radio-wave technology. The program would build off of the current ankle-tagging currently in place, and according to a official from the Ministry of Justice who finds the plan double-plus good, "All the options are on the table, and this is one we would like to pursue." Of course, the controversial concept does have its detractors, Shami Chakrabarti, director of Liberty, says that, "If the Home Office doesn't understand why implanting a chip in someone is worse than an ankle bracelet, they don't need a human-rights lawyer; they need a common-sense bypass." Shortly following this statement, however, Shami was taken to an interrogation room and outfitted with a rat-hood, and all record of her existence was erased from state records.

This is how they will take the liberty of all UK citizens. First, the prisoners. Who'll say no to that? Then your pets to help keep track of them. Then the elderly. Then newborns.

The elites would love to do this in America, too. But everyone should be fighting against it.

RFID chips are already being used in america.... as a luxury.

This one man in particular has one that controls the locks on his cars and the locks to his home. Personally, I don't like it. I'm all for new technology, but I think this is a bit of a taboo. It can easily turn our way of living into a dictatorship and we not even realize it till it's way too late.

Think about it. If the chip becomes common enough, they might be a requirement for a job. Eventually, personal, data will go on these. From social security to bank accounts.

From a religious standpoint, it can be a refrence to Revilations... the mark?

Anyway, in cause anyone was currious, the most common place, so far, for these chips is the webbing of your hand between your index and thumb.

This was the web version of the article I got in one of the issues of Spectrum back in march. It's definately worth the read (and I'm suprized I found it).

Yeah, it is chilling, if you think about it. Especially how the most common place to plant the chip is in your hand. Revelations states that everyone will need the "mark of the beast" on either their hand or their forehead in order to do business or live in the modern world.

Awhile ago I took the time to read through parts of revelations just for "fun", and it's really scary how much of it is eerily possible in our current world. I guess the next thing we have to wait for is a great leader who will rise up and try to unite the world =P

Where you at dog :p Sadly people already willingly allow others to track their locations with things that might as well be grafted in their skin. Of course you don't just have to have Boost Mobile for people to track you down, pretty sure any cell phone will do. Tracking, you know, 'for emergencies' so the 'paramedics' can find your location if you're 'in trouble'. Funny how convenience and privacy seem to typically be at odds with one another. Guess who wins :|.

So really this would just be putting it out in the open, and on people who probably deserve to be tracked. They force you to do labor in Jail, and can track you there, so why not save some tax payer money in the long run and track them but without the need for concrete and steel bars.

Yes it's all scary stuff, but that's 'progress' for you. The only real problems is when people are able to buy themselves out of these things. If everyone knows where everyone is, it's fairly harmless, sadly ideals only exist in dreams.
