Heh, in a way i want to gloat a bit about it because the canadian dollar is higher than the american for the first time i've ever seen.

Yes, it is. This has been warned about constantly, with the Federal Reserve printing money out of thin air. There's 13 trillion bucks in circulation and only about 7 trillion in gold to back it up (I think this is the right stat, but I'll keep checking later). Basically, we've been operating of the perception that the dollar was infallible, which gave other countries confidence in the dollar.

Frankly, the fact that the Canadian dollar is now stronger than the American dollar sets off alarms in my head. It goes to show what's happening, because in a system backed by solid commodities, the US dollar would never be beaten by maple leaf currency.
