I do agree with the truecoolness. The reporters should more precisely say that no terrorist organizations are known to be involved as most people would consider the action itself to be a form of terroism. However, I did not see the coverage in question so I'm not actually sure the reporters did not in fact state it that way.

I understand the joking aspect of The Gnasher's comment. I considered it to be a sarcastic comment, which I'm OK with, but I'm equally OK with me questioning the specifics of his comment to show that I did not maintain that it was funny.

I know that Americans have a long way to go with learning about the suffering of their international brothers and sisters that we for a long time were mostly sheltered from and sometimes turned our back on. That is exactly why I would only respect those international brothers and sisters who are self consistent in their criticism who SYMPATHIZE with the childlike (note: not childish) fear that Americans have since 9/11 rather than those who make fun of them.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the frustration against Americans too so I don't hold it against those who make said sarcastic comments (consider to be negative). I simply don't respect it (consider it to have no value).

Well well well. There's a definite disadvantage to come late into conversations >.< Though Regal clarified my view quite correctly there. Thanks ^^

Hmm, about the terrorist thing... Yeah. It was a sarcastic comment. But I still believe that after 11/9 (yeah, I write dates the other way around) the USA has been very... let's say... paranoid about terrorist activity. That's a personal opinion, so of course it's not completely neutral. Like, that movie Crash which won whichever Oscar, I hated that movie.
But everyone's got the right to think whatever they want, and if terrorists like terrorizing your country, it's perfectly acceptable that you think of them first when you read something like those news. Don't think I'm criticizing north-americans or anything like that.

People like him always kill themselves last so someone else doesn't stop them or they know there's no way of escape.

@The Gnasher

While I disagree with your opinion on this particular issue, I want to assure you that I do not believe you have any ill will toward North-Americans, so I don’t think you are criticizing them in that sense but I do believe that your opinion is biased in this respect:

The present administration and others at the government and enforcement levels have reinforced the idea of 'terrorism' but I myself don't know anyone from the US that is worried about it significantly.

However, after 9/11, most (US) Americans have become aware of the possibility of it (it is almost as if before that they thought it was impossible) and so now it is a fair question, "Was it terrorist related? No, OK, moving on." whereas before we (as the people, not the government) might have never thought to ask that question (even if some event actually was 'terrorist' related) as we (as the people, not the government) had no real frame of reference for ‘terrorism.

My point is that most of the average citizens are not worried about or obsessed with ‘terrorism’ even if the government is reinforcing the idea but the average citizen now knows it is at least a possibility to be reasonably considered. That is why I believe the news reporters can bring up the issue to answer the question that many of us wonder in these events even if it is not usually on our mind.

I don't know what's worse. The shooting, or the apparent neccessity that they had to say that this guy was not part of a terrorist group? Are we really so paranoid that we think every act of violence could be related to 9/11? For crying out loud, the guy was just insane about his girlfriend! How is that terrorist-related???

DUMB. :shakefist

What would make it less sad, if people kept talking about it the next week?
