First... the movies are NEVER better than the books.

Second, if you were to try to cram everything in, you'd be watching that movie for a long, long, very long time.

So what, An extra hour to the film just to sum everything up? The titanic was longer then that. It could have been done. I thinks..

Na, They could have made an hour of stuff just to bring it more together. Lord of the rings had 3 parts. Maybe this should have had parts too.

With as bad as you credit the film, what would it matter? Not like you'd go see them.

Oh that is soooo not true. You know nothing about me lantis. I hated lord of the rings part one. But the other 2 rocked. I know this... Why? Because I saw all 3.

I thought that Indiana Jones parts 1 and 3 sucked. But the temple of doom kicked ass.

And I like all the starwars movies outside of empires strikes back.

So there..

Wow, so I've been away to long and I've missed part of this thread.

I'll go ahead and say I followed this movie for the better part of a year and owned the graphic novel since....hmmm...The day it came out :D

There are some great things about 300. The movie is rather accurate ( I mean you gotta give them license to make things more interesting.) and it throughs a great portayal of Sparta and the Battle of Thermopylae (that's the historical name of the battle).

I'll go ahead and address a few things, nudity being one of them. Every instance of nudity can be justified, at least partially.
The scene with the oracle justified its nudity through the fact that only the most beautiful are chosen. Sorry you couldn't have proven that to me if I'd scene a cute chick lying on the ground. The dancing trance was pure beautiful cinematography. Only thing here is this part did last a little longer then it needed to.
The sex scene between Leonidas and Gorgo was for one reason only. To show the contrast in the historical culture of Sparta. Passion...and brutality. Throughout the entire scene you could see that passion embroiling the two of them, and you could also see that it was not a peaceful things. This is a direct reflection of Sparta's culture, passion that knows no bounds surrounded by fierce brutality (Yes I know that putting a hugely poetic twist on it. But that's what they were trying to do.)
The scene where Xerxes corrupted Ephialtes was perfect, for Ephialtes at least. The women there were everthing he could want, horribly disfigured and beautiful at the same time, and willing to do anything.

I hope that addresses my feelings on the nudity. Now on to the fun stuff! The battles!!!!! First I must say the the choreography of the fights was wonderful, but not so incredibly glittzy as to make it historically retarded. I loved the use of slow time in the backgrounds while focusing on one character in the foreground. It previded a depth that is usually lost in most battle scenes. I have to say that Caro and Stahelski did a great job coming up with the fighting styles.

One thing I want to address (and I've already addressed it to Lantis) is the disorganiztion within the Persian army. You have to realize that the Persian army won basically everything through sheer numbers. That was the contrast between the Spartans and the Persians, and basically on of the only things that helped them do anything. Also know that the Persian army was famous for blanketing their opponents in arrows, often times using small groups of infantry as sacrifices. The Persian army wasn't particulary skilled, but it was massive.

The best show part of the fights for me was when Stelios and Astinos fought as a pair. Spartans fought as two man teams in the thick of battle, shields guarding the both their own left sides and the back right sides of their partners. I was incredibly pleased when they showed this style and really thought Michael Fassbender and Tom Wisdom did a great job in the scene.

I was also pleased that they explained away the help. The battle of Thermopylae had 300 Spartans and around 1300 greek conscripts from various city-states. Even though it never gave a number I thought the movie did a wonderful job of explaining away the conscripts by using the Akkadians.

-Goods: The cast of the movie was perfect, especially Gerard Butler and Michael Fassbender. I was also wonderfully pleased with Rodrigo Santoro as Xerxes.
Fights were incredible and there was always something new to see.
Relatively historically accurate.
Enough boobies to make it interesting :P
Comic book like moments were great nostalgia for fans of the graphic novel
While the fighting was the best part I was incredibly pleased with Lena Headey as Gorgo. I thought she did a wonderful job of keeping the non-fighting parts interesting. Also had possibly the best line in the movie.
"This will not be quick. You will not enjoy this. I am not your Queen."
With that I just have to say Treasure and wink at Lantis.

-Bads: I have only two real miffs about the movie. Both involve deaths.

I was horribly appalled by Astinos' death, especially after the beautiful choreography he and Stelios had done. I thought it was poorly done. I thad nothing of severity of the novel in it.

I also kinda wish the Spartans could have taken more with them at the end. I understand what the attempt was.
But it seemed a little sad to me when they had so easily taken down so many, only to be wiped out in a few moments.
And With that I have to say it was a fantastic movie. Probably one of the best, ifnot the best, action movies I have ever seen. If you have yet to see it, I implore you to see it in theatres as soon as possible. And on the biggest screen possible :D

¬_¬

... you ho.

@ KK - okay okay, fine. I'll give you that much. But you do realize that dispite the fact that you like LOTR 2 and 3, that sill there was quite a bit of stuff cut out?

The point being, I don't think they wanted to make a sequel to 300. They put alot of content that was historically correct. And because of that, that will turn away a few people (I guess they threw in a few of those mutated persians for those ppl ^_^).

Anyway, my fewpoints of the movie still stand with the original two issues. Nothing more. And if our little ranting affected you or not, oh well... I wasn't trying to convert you to the dark/light side of the force or anything, it's just nice to debate from time to time.

Not all books are better than the movie. Xerxes looked really gay, more like a transexual version of marilyn manson. The corrupted sages were very disgusting, licking the oricle with their nasty tongues. I remember in the theatres when some old couple saw it they left immediately, the wife threw up. The slowdown action when the soldiers were killing off massive enemies were satisfying but yet powerful. Reminds me of a video game more or less.

300's graphic novel by Frank Miller's. The entire novel... though pretty much impossible to read.

First, you just quoted me on the "impossible to read" line.

Second: http://www.amazon.com/300-Frank-Miller/ ... 303&sr=1-1

Find one place that says "comic" refering to 300 specifically and I'll pick out my eyes with a rusty fork... or something unnecessary like that.

At the bottom, it does say "comics and graphic novels" so apparently, there IS in fact a diffrence between comics and graphic novels.

And it really doesn't matter anyway... that's is what it's considered reguardless of what you think.

quit flaming.

Well the movie was certainly exciting (and not for the nudity, though the one scene just felt like unnecessary soft core, though I guess still somewhat artistic). The fight scenes were just amazing. The timing, music, and camera gave each thrust and slash such power behind it. It was funny watching the Spartans push the line forward. The last battle however was very anti-climatic. It was really disappointing, though it might have been the real way it happened, you still expected a lot more to happen in that battle than did.

But yeah the grace and style of the Spartans was really something to behold. Don't really expect that kind of tactics and finesse in battles of that size. And the fighting in the shade scene was classic (both of the ones where that line was used).

Man either Xerxes was tall or Leonidas was short. Looks like Xerxes was 7' or something crazy like that. As for him being flamboyant, that's just how most rich people have dressed throughout history, and also many people during that time were either bi or homosexual.

So pretty good movie, though the ending was kind of meh.
