Hey guys, some really interesting comments just dropped. US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta testified that the military does not need to ask Congress for permission to mobilize the military:

Ladies and gentlemen, there's a storm coming. It's going to be a major fight to determine whether or not liberty and the Constitution are going to be what rules or a potential military dictatorship in America.

that is a pretty strong statement. i understand that the president has the legal authority and all that jazz but what this guy is implying is that the congress has no power over the military. the legal framework that mr sessons was asking for was a US legal framework, who decides if the military should legally according to states policies and practices be deployed. that panetta basically said its not needed at all is a bit scary.

the context of "defending national interests" has been warped an expanded to include anything that they can justify to themselves. by removing any kind of secondary oversight they set a dangerous precedent. i dont think this will change anything but its a stunning comment from those who are in power. the constitution is the one power that trumps government, and to have war actions decided outside of its sphere can only lead to trouble.
